Amer has over 10 years of experience in management and international development. Currently, he is a Senior Program Officer at the National Democratic Institute NDI (Washington, DC) focusing on democracy development in Middle East North Africa. He consulted for and managed programs for several world class organizations and companies including: NDI, UNDP, UNFPA, Cisco, Islamic Relief, International Medical Corps (IMC), and International Rescue Committee (IRC). Amer also implemented projects funded by National Endowment for Democracy (NED), European Endowment for Democracy, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Chemonics International, Freedom House, and The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience. Amer is the author of numerous quantitative and qualitative research papers and articles on democracy and transitions in the Middle East. Amer conducted research, taught, and worked at several academic institutions and universities including: Georgetown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Damascus University, Arab European University, and Yarmouk University. His articles and research papers were published by research centers, journals, and media outlets such as: Georgetown Public Policy Review, Georgetown Policy Perspectives, Georgetown Journal of International Affairs, the Heinz Journal, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, Enab Baladi Newspaper, and the Syrian Development Research Center. Amer gave talks at Georgetown School of Foreign Service and the National Model United Nations.
