I have a lot of experience with psd to html stuff. Although I've designed a few sites / interfaces, I'm not a good designer. I do much jQuery, very much more than pure js. However, I have experience with the latter. I have medium knowledge about PHP/MySQL. I'm a freelancer because I like it. I don't show all the stuff I've done because I can't and/or I don't like/remember several projects. I don't work with Wordpress, sorry. I can't speak english very well, so let's forget the skype calls!

I am a Linux expert. I have been a linux user for 16 years and have used it professionally for 14 years. I was an early adopter of the Nginx web server and over the last 4 years I have been using it exclusively to manage high traffic web sites. I specialize in Linux security and have professional experience securing a web server using methods such-as but not limited to; chroot/jail environments, hardened kernel patches, and role-based access policies. I am an expert at tracking down even the most difficult of problems and most of my clients believe that I have a crystal ball under my desk. I am fluent in Python and PHP and can write everything from small scripts to automate tasks to a full blown command line application.

Over the past 20 years I have been involved in several large projects including both software and hardware elements. I am looking to bring my expertise to businesses that have complex needs but don't have the volume to justify the expense of in-house talent. My skills include: - Project and team management: I have led web development projects from 3 to 30 people, using RUP, Scrum and homegrown methodologies. I know how to earn trust and gain the respect of collaborators, management, peers and clients. - Rails - I love the platform and have been working almost exclusively in RoR projects in the past 4 years for several different clients. - I prefer to use Thin, nginx, haml, jQuery, Semantic UI, Webistrano, MySQL or SQL Server, RVM and Rails 4.0 for new RoR projects. - I have experience consuming services like Twilio, SendGrid, UrbanAirship, and interfacing with payment gateways (usually Stripe and PayPal). - TCP/IP networking in general and the most popular protocols: HTTP/HTTPS, SMTP, POP3, SNMP, SSH. I also have a lot of experience troubleshooting connectivity and performance problems. I enjoy working with peers, but I can also work alone as developer and server administrator in small projects.

Web programmer/scraper/data-mining (HTML, PHP, MySQL, CMS, REGEX)

    United States - Last active: 12/19/2014 - Tests: 1 - Portfolio: 3

I was a graphic/web designer for several years before I moved on to IT Management, but I specialize in data-mining/web-scraping. I have developed scripts that quickly harvest information, present it to the user in an organized fashion, and automate arduous processes. Some examples include: - Statewide Craigslist Search - Setting up sites that use "Bookmarklets." Say, for example, rather than mining an entire site, you want to strip individual products. You view a product and click the bookmark in your browser that will then redirect to the data-mining script with the web site you were just viewing. From there it will process the information as needed (create your own product database without having to scan your own images). - Mass file/image harvesting which can be exported as new-line delimited URLs that can then be easily imported into most download managers to later retrieval. - Custom databases for personal use by mining information from other sites (i.e. Movies, Comics, etc.)

  10. Aaron Meriwether

    Aaron Meriwether

    Senior Software Architect

    United States - Last active: 02/27/2014 - Tests: 9

I have programmed as a hobby for most of my life, and as a profession for the last 14 years. I enjoy solving interesting problems in an elegant and forward-looking manner. I have worked on everything from front-end web interfaces to desktop applications, to console applications, to back-end databases and system integrations. Although I most often use Perl, Java, or Javascript, I am also familiar with many other languages and always try to select the best tool for the job. If you want something done right, I'm your man. If you want a simple system first that can be expanded later, I can do that too. If you ask me to do something that will cause issues in the future, I'll do my best to help you see the big picture. I already have a full-time job, but oDesk offers the possibility to work on more varied projects... so tell me what you want to build, and I'll help you realize it!
