Originally a native Hungarian/English English teacher with an MA and a CELTA/B for over 3 decades, I have experience as a translator dating back to the 1990s in Hungary. I have taught English at grammar schools, and Economics as well as English teaching methodology at universities, in Hungary as well as in China. Presently I live and work in the Netherlands and have passed the highest-level Dutch state exam for foreigners. I teach adults high-level English at a language institute here now. I do translation jobs from English, Hungarian and Dutch as well, but I mostly do it from English to Hungarian for the Presence Group.
I have also written and published a book about music and an English course-book with colleagues. Beside English, I have a Masters Degree in Geography, so I understand a lot of related fields, like Economics (which I also taught to customers at companies and universities), the environment, PR etc. My biggest translation so far was a book about marketing, back in 1998. I can work with Trados 2014 if necessary, but as a "classical" translator, I know how to do it on my own, and I find that the best way. I am fastidious about language issues, careful with correctness and style, and punctual in delivery.
I can translate about 4000 words of text per day from English. By stating a deadline if required, I mean that is the latest point in time when I can deliver - I may be able to finish before that, but due to my other commitments, I cannot positively guarantee an earlier time. I cannot vouchsafe that I translate those 4000 words every day because I sometimes teach, for example. But I deliver when, or before, I promise.
The reason why I do not have a lot of finished jobs or applications on this site is because I only joined in August 2013, because I am busy with other stuff as you can see above, and because I do not want to apply for jobs here which I may not be able to perform at 100%. I also do not apply for jobs that require "native speakers" for $1.5 per 500 words. Perhaps other natives do not have to pay taxes and have low costs, but here I have all those here which do not allow me to work for that money. I also do not claim, as some others with a BA in Programming, or with an Advanced English exam, that I am an expert on a thousand and one things.
Then, seeing that there are very few jobs (perhaps 1 or 2 a month) for Hungarian translators here and we are more than two dozen on this site alone, those jobs go to the cheapest bidder who purports to be able to do anything and everything. Unfortunately, most jobs come at a fixed price, but there's a requirement for a hundred hours spent on this site. Ridiculous, impossible if one is not a programmer.
However, I offer best quality for the money I ask for, as you can see from my test results, which seem to be outstanding, compared to most other Hungarian natives. Besides, when I am suddenly asked to translate 10000 words for 6 or 8 Euros/100 words one morning, you don't want to be pushed to the bottom of my agenda, do you?
One more thing. As I have learned Dutch in the last few years and live in the Netherlands, I have taken a Dutch translation exam here and have done a couple of texts from Dutch followed with positive feed-back, I can safely say that I can translate from Dutch to English or Hungarian quite fine too. Not everything, of course.
