On-call translation for parent communications at California elementary school
Nov 2014 - Aug 2015
Alicia's work was really good. She was responsive and efficient with her time and the quality of the output was great. The only issue we had, which resulted in her terminating the contract, was stress and anxiety she felt about having a large number of documents to translate in a short period of time. I had let her know a few days ahead of time that I needed a number of documents translated, but not having the full details of the length of the documents I estimated the number of pages. The actual length ended up being 2-3 times that. She was very alarmed by the length and apparently offended. She translated what she could and terminated the contract, leaving us in the lurch for the remainder. I apologized about the situation, but I was very taken aback by her reaction. I thought we had established an open and trusting relationship where she could feel open to write me and say that there was too much to do in the timeframe required. I would have been more than willing and understanding about working it out. But her abrupt termination of the contract did not provide me the ability to have that conversation.
