From forty candidates to five. We then paid those five nearly $8,000 dollars to compete in a 48 hour competition to analyze and report on our software code. It was a very challenging task to compete in 48 hours.
Khalid Bajwa’s report was superior in nearly every way. Within 48 hours Khalid understood what had taken us ten years to create. Not only that, in that 48 hours, he had begun to re-design our application. From that moment to now – one year and over 1000 hours later we know that we have been working with a uniquely gifted person.
Not only is Khalid a superb interface designer and skilled developer but someone who is so accomplished at communicating to a global range of team members, that I’m sure someday his writings will be published.
When we got into a tight spot and someone came through with a creative solution, we honored that individual with a “Woz” award. Khalid got more than his share of 4am “Woz” awards.
I’ve never gotten over the day, mid-way through our project, when our project manager announced that Khalid was turning 24. This has changed my view of out-sourcing for the most outstanding talent around the world.
There is no doubt from my nearly 20 years of software development, that Khalid is one of the Captains of Software. His deep commitment to the craft, his intelligence and outstanding creative mind will insure that he will make a lasting impact on this industry.
