Software developer / integrator for open platforms

Yekaterinburg, Russia

Developer and integrator of web, desktop, server and embedded (mostly arm-based platforms with os) software components based on free and open-source software, unix-like systems and open platforms. Usually known as Mike Kazantsev on the web, mk-fg on github, irc and such. ---------- I'm an everyday user and passionate developer and contributor of free software, with pretty much whole career spent in this field. Past work includes building and supporting a local web portals from ground-up, managing, scaling and maintaining an infrastructure for large web portals (20k+ pageviews/min), mail systems, hosting platforms, game servers, processing APIs and other services with lots of both public-facing and ... moresystem-level components. More recently had plenty of work wrt building of autonomous embedded arm-based platforms (based on RPi, Beaglebones, am33x, Allwinner and such) - all software-related tasks there, integration with custom hardware. When not on the job, I work on my own open-source software projects (see homepage and github), help maintain linux distributions, participate in future technology discussions and tinker with the web, interesting new boards and devices, new programming languages/techniques, data processing and visualization. I have a lot of experience with high-level scripting languages, of which I prefer Python or JavaScript/CoffeeScript, but also worked extensively with PHP, Perl, Lua, different Scheme/Lisp dialects, sh/bash/ash/etc (posix-ish shells), a bit lower-level Go and many others. Good understanding of database/storage systems, including advanced SQL (PostgreSQL and a bit of Oracle, worked with billing group in a major TelCo, plus MySQL/SQLite of course), underlying operation (how indexes built/traversed, vacuuming, caches, lookup iops, configuration, etc) and performance implications, some real-world replication and scaling experience. Worked with C on many occasions, but moslty on a smaller projects like optimization and glue modules, small tools, simple real-time software (on top of linux-rt), fixes, features and patches for larger projects, but never wrote large project in C from ground-up. Almost no C++ experience. Have solid understanding of underlying hardware (incl. current rack server platforms) and some knowledge and experience of assembly programming. Lots of past work with networks (but not much w/ specialized hw like cisco routers - mostly linux net stack, all sorts of tunneling there, ipv6, advanced firewalls, QoS and routing), specialized networking (tor, cjdns, dht-based p2p networks, distributed storage and replication, etc) and all things web - both backend/frontend client/server extensively, though not much of an UI/UX designer. See my linked github profile and links from there for more details on what I find most interesting atm, have most experience on and work with on a daily basis (circa non-open job projects, of course). less

Write Python Unit Tests for FileStruct content server
Mike brought far more capability to the project that I had even expected. He is a exhaustively through communicator, a very analytical thinker, and exceptionally capable in Python, Open Source Technologies, Methodologies, Philosophies, and more. He proceeded to complete our requirements above our expectations with his usual efficiency. Mike is a no-bs kind of guy, so be prepared to know the why behind what you want done, because he will not hesitate to help you find a better way.

He started working on the job immediately and completed everything as required, and even wrote a summary for me what has been done.
