Elance Launches Skill Test for HTML5 Developers

Businesses Can Now Harness the Power of the Only Tested HTML5 Developers on the Web

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — August 31, 2010 — Elance, where the world’s top talent works online, added an HTML5 Developer Skill Test to its Professional Skill Tests to connect businesses with tested HTML5 developers. Available first on Elance, the new HTML5 skill test enables developers to demonstrate their expertise in this latest version of the open web standard that facilitates rich media content through any compatible browser.

With the leading network of rated and tested online professionals, Elance has seen demand for HTML5 skills skyrocket. Job posts seeking HTML5 developers have doubled month-over-month while HTML is consistently one of the most sought after IT skills by businesses today. More than 14,000 HTML developers are currently active on Elance.

“Businesses are eager to tap into HTML5 technologies to incorporate video and audio directly into their web sites. With HTML5, you’re able to do most anything that Flash or Java could do, without the need to ask your end-user to install and maintain extra software. This allows companies to focus on their content and new ideas — not the technology behind them. I’m thrilled to have found a network like Elance where companies are seeking out these skills,” said Chris Gladd, an HTML5 expert on Elance. “The HTML5 skill test boosts my credibility on Elance and lets potential clients know I have the talent to create a great product that will be future-proof for years to come.”

Elance skill tests help professionals differentiate their expertise in a specific area and offer employers more ways to evaluate a candidate, in addition to work history, client feedback, portfolio samples, verified credentials and group affiliations. The importance of Elance skill tests proved fundamental in a recent study of Elance employers where 76% of respondents stated they were more likely to hire a freelance professional if the candidate posted a skill test relevant to the job requirements on their profile. Elance offers the most comprehensive skill tests platform to providers with more than 370 free skill tests.

“Businesses have posted more than 150,000 programming jobs on Elance this year seeking talented HTML developers, PHP programmers and more. We expect HTML5 to become the new standard in 2011 and are making the HTML5 skill test available now to help employers connect with the best developers in the world to drive their technology projects forward,” said Ellen Pack, Vice President of Marketing at Elance.
