Event Photographer
Oleksandr (Alex) was all I hoped for... and more! I knew he was technically competent based on his portfolio, but he brought personal strengths to this job that not every photographer possesses.
So you know what I was looking for, here is an excerpt from my job post:
We are looking for a skilled photographer to capture candid and posed shots of people attending our annual conference in Las Vegas … The ideal candidate will have experience in event photography and be able to work well in a busy environment … There will be a list of requested shots, but we need someone capable of recognizing opportunities and engaging our members as they move about the conference space—capturing the essence and energy of the event and its participants in a creative manner.
Working with Alex seemed effortless from the start. Once he was hired, we were in constant contact about the job through messages and emails. He took an interest in the job and welcomed a shot list, which he referred to throughout the event.
On the first morning, I expected to supervise him for a few hours — introducing him to the venue and helping him get acquainted with our members and the types of photos I wanted. Coming from a family of professional photographers, I know that not all photographers are equal when it comes to engaging subjects, especially those subjects who are naturally reluctant in front of a camera. I thought I would need to provide guidance to Alex and help with posed photos, but within 15 minutes, I knew Alex would be fine on his own.
Alex was exceptionally talented when it came to engaging conferencegoers. He made people comfortable being photographed, and he sought out opportunities throughout the weekend to snap candid and posed shots. When I arrived at our Halloween party, for example, he was already busy shooting costumed subjects individually and in groups. By then, he had been on the job for two days, and people were obviously comfortable approaching him and requesting he photograph them. I was free to enjoy the party!
During our days working together, he would check in to make sure my needs were being met, but frankly, it was a huge relief to know that I had a committed partner who understood what I needed. Alex turned around the finished/edited photos quickly. It was while reviewing the finished photos that I truly grasped how much he had accomplished on his own without supervision or prodding. And, of course, the quality of the work was outstanding.
I would also like to mention that Alex was appropriately attired, well-groomed, polite, and effective in his communication style. Fellow staff were unanimously impressed.
I would hire Oleksandr Kosheliev again in an instant and hope to do so next year. I have already recommended him to associates who book events in Vegas.
