Optimize impeller and housing for increased flow while minimizing noise levels
We have been working on our air cleaner for 2 years and were satisfied with our design. We hired Mansour in hopes of optimized our impeller blade before we proceeded to go into production. His history has great 5 star reviews and has a specially in fans, although it might be turbines and industrial applications, we were willing to work with him because of the same similar principles. No LinkedIn was provided so there wasn't any way to verify his references other than what his Upwork profile shows.
Upon starting the contract, we hopped on a virtual call where I went over our current design. Over the course, I kept reiterating the objective and requirements, such as no undercuts, noise level, and performance metrics. Mansour assured me everything was understood.
His first design concept completed ignored the undercut requirement. The provided a mixed flow blade which is common used in turbines. This was a red flag. I was disappointed but spent more time to thoroughly go through the requirement one more time.
His next concept again , failed to adhere to the requirement. At this point im starting to get skeptical and we haven't even began the design process yet. However, his third concept finally was feasible.
He ran the CFD and provided the results. It showed promise so I proceeded to tell him to create a working model that we can test. The provided a model but failed to take into account our design. For us to test his concept, we would have to buy a new motor, and completely change 3 significant parts in our air cleaner. In addition, his impeller was designed for a CCW motor, and he knew ours spun CW. Instead of fixing his design so that we can test it in our current device, Mansour proceeds to tell me that I should alter our components such as buying a new motor and resoldering our controller so it spins in reverse to accommodate for his oversight. Now, im not claiming to be more of an expert in his field but I think it's much easier to change a 3d printed cad file to fit the current components vs buying new components to fit the plastic part.
I think if you don't know anything and need someone to create a fan blade, Mansour can do that for you. If it's a simple axial fan for a floor fan and you want something that performs maybe 60% well. I think he can do it.
However, if you are going to spend a lot of money on a product that will be sold to the masses maybe look elsewheret. Outside from running a CFD software, his cad skills were basic. He didn't design with consideration of our current design and told us we needed to make adjustments when we questioned flaws in his design.
