You will get a high-availability WordPress infrastructure hosted on AWS, using the following services:
- Elastic Beanstalk: to manage the compute layer (web/app servers)
- RDS: to manage the database layer
- CloudFront: to serve as a CDN in front of the app
- S3: to store the media uploads
- SES: to deliver the email messages sent from the contact forms
- CodePipeline: to handle automatic CI/CD deployments from GitHub or CodeCommit repositories
This configuration provides the best possible performance for non-persistent WordPress high availability environments. Configurations based on EFS network file systems have very poor performance, since running PHP files on network drives is very inefficient.
In this case, we will use EBS volumes to host the web instances, which provide the best latency and access time.
This infrastructure is intended so that WordPress site updates (core, themes, or plugins updates) are performed through a GIT repository (GitHub, CodeCommit, BitBucket) instead of doing it from the backend web interface (wp-admin).
