Hello. I am a professional audio mastering engineer. They specialize in audio re-mastering of old 1920's records. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in audio mastering. My approach to noise reduction and audio restoration is simple. First, I assess the "damage" and develop a strategy to deal with noise reduction. There are many different kinds of noise: thumps, clicks, background noise, artifacts, room noise, crackles, hums, equipment noise ...... Then I remove as much as possible without causing artifacts and finally I touch up the finished track to make it sound as good as possible, using very expensive proprietary software and spending a lot of time trying to improve small details .
