Let's say you have a story brewing in your head. Or, you have a drafted story and it's getting close to completion. But you're not sure if the structure of your story is quite there yet. There may be beats in the story that are uncertain on whether or not they are fulfilling the purpose you want them to fulfill. Are the characters fleshed out? Is the arc coherent.
As an author of a few published novels, I've gone through the trial of crafting stories, learning about structure and discovering what works and doesn't work. Along with knowing what I love aligns with what other readers love, I am able to assess a story structure from the perspective of both a writer and a reader. And, most importantly, I have learned the essentials of what makes certain stories marketable.
