From the moment I learned to read, the written word has captivated me. Every book is filled with things I don't know yet, characters I haven't met yet, points of view I haven't considered yet. As I got older, this need to know everything grew ever stronger.
I went into journalism in part because of that, seeing every person as a book I hadn't read yet, and every story I wrote as a way to introduce others to these fascinating stories. But it was writing the book reviews that was my favorite, drawing a book from the pile of advance copies and diving into a brand new world, then writing about what I found there.
When I made the jump to freelancing, I missed those weekly books the most. Then I discovered beta reading, and I never looked back.
To me, beta reading is a privilege. A chance to see a world, a point of view, a cast of characters that only a handful of people have seen. I want to read your story. I want to learn your style, your voice, your message, and your characters. And I'll happily repay that privilege by writing up a detailed report of everything I've discovered, playing my part in helping to refine your work.
