Project details

You wrote a blog post. Now what? Let's get your draft structurally and mechanically sound and make your readers squeal with excitement!

I'm the executive editor of a magazine and publishing company specializing in dread-inspiring works of short fiction, but I'm also an editorial freelancer, writing coach, and certified copyeditor who is passionate about helping new writers break into the industry. I have over a decade of blogging experience and can't wait to leverage it to your advantage!

I start each project with a close analysis of the article, noting any developmental or structural issues. You will receive a Word file containing detailed feedback and suggestions, along with inline comments and tracked edits. I also include links to relevant, useful resources where necessary.

I'm qualified to edit all written content, but my areas of special expertise are:
- the professional beauty service industry
- employment law
- tax law
- workers' rights
- business finance
- business management (service sector)
- compensation and pricing calculation

About Tina

Tina A.
Content Strategist and Certified Copyeditor
Content Strategist and Certified Copyeditor
88% Job Success
Avon, United States - 6:26 am local time
I'm a content strategist with over a decade of writing, editing, and digital publishing experience. I offer a variety of services including writing, developmental editing, mechanical editing, proofreading, ebook formatting, story analysis, story critique, book coaching, sensitivity reading, and beta reading, but most often, I develop and execute editorial calendars as a content strategist, directing teams of writers.

I took a non-linear career path, working as a popular blogger, podcaster, and subject matter expert before self-publishing two books and establishing a successful management consulting firm. I'm proud to have successfully completed the University of California's year-long copyediting certification program (considered one of the most rigorous in the country), graduating with straight A's in all courses.

As a career blogger, publisher, and site administrator, I’ve used just about everything, know how to leverage each major social media platform effectively, and can easily adapt to new technologies. I have active licenses for and am most experienced in the following solutions:
• MS Office
• Google Workspace
• Scrivener
• Hemingway
• Grammarly
• Twine
• Affinity Publisher
• Affinity Designer
• Canva
• WordPress
• Elementor
• LearnDash LMS
• Mailster
• Mailchimp
• Asana
• CoSchedule
• Hootsuite
• TweetDeck

I’m a resourceful, achievement-driven workaholic with exceptional time management and organizational abilities. Clients routinely praise my efficiency, communicativeness, availability, and attention to detail.

When copyediting, I first read the document in its entirety, highlighting areas that may require fact-checking or citations and leaving comments to serve as personal reminders where necessary. What follows depends on the level of editing requested (light, medium, or heavy). If light or medium edits are required, I correct indisputable mechanical and grammatical errors using Track Changes. (I’m proficient in both Microsoft Word and Google Docs and can work on whatever platform the client prefers.) If heavy editing is required, I will ensure the content is clear, concise, and effective at conveying the intent of the writer. Unless instructed otherwise, substantive revisions are suggested in the comments so the writer can choose if and how to incorporate them. I check all documents for plagiarism using Grammarly Pro.

I am a full-time Upwork freelancer. I use the Upwork app to facilitate communication and allow it to capture my screen while I'm working, so clients can monitor and verify my progress. My headset is always on, so if you need to call me (via the Upwork app), please do! Though I prefer to keep my work hours limited to the workweek, I am available via the Upwork app 24/7, should my clients have any emergency questions or needs.

Editorial work is my profession and my passion. When I'm not serving my Upwork clients, I run The Dread Machine, an indie publishing house, and serve as the executive editor of our magazine. I am a member of various organizations including ACES, the EFA, the SFWA, the Author's Guild, and the IBPA, and can often be found at word nerd events. As a lifelong learner, I take a variety of continuing education courses each year to keep my skills ultra-sharp.

Before requesting a proposal from me, please ensure your payment method is verified. As a rule, I don't submit proposals to clients who lack a verified payment method.

Aside from the projects listed in my Project Catalog, I prefer to work on an hourly basis and almost never take fixed-price assignments. If I decline your invitation to a fixed-price job, please keep me in mind for future hourly-based projects! (Please note that the rates listed on my profile are starting rates, representing what I typically charge for editing. Copywriting and content strategy rates are higher.)
