Project details
Line editing, also known as substantive editing or content editing, is a granular edit of your novel or memoir once all the major pieces are in place. It usually comes after a developmental edit (why pay for edits on a chapter that will later get deleted?) and before copyediting and proofreading (though I do often flag key proofreading and copyediting issues when I line edit).
If I do my job well, your writing skill as well as your manuscript will improve as you make your way through my edits.
I focus on your writing's impact and style as well as the details of the storytelling. I look for plot and character inconsistencies, clunky sentences, tone and point-of-view shifts, and places where your prose can be polished and content cut. I use both tracked changes and inline manuscript comments.
The Starter package is useful if you want to prep the first 10k words of your manuscript for an agent or publisher submission. You can also use it as a sort of writing tutorial before diving too far into a longer manuscript.
