I worked abroad as an EFL (English as a foreign language) teacher for 6 years but realised I would eventually have to return to the UK. Unfortunately EFL jobs are few and far between in this country, so I decided to put my English language skills to good use and do a Diploma in proofreading and copyediting. This enabled me to learn how to proofread (on screen and on paper using the BSI symbols) and copyedit effectively. I achieved a Distinction and am currently looking for opportunities (in-house or freelance) in this area. I am able to work with a high level of accuracy and a meticulous attention to detail, making me highly skilled at identifying and correcting errors and typos, however minor, that other people often overlook.
