About Nyya
Consultant
Chicago, United States - 4:27 pm local time
Under the mentorship of Pr. Nicolas Andre, Nyya utilized his interest in educational tech to formulate a pedagogy for students of Haitian Creole. The resulting program teaches over 2,500 Haitian Creole words through over 23,000 translation exercises. The project is supported by Duolingo and is the only free online Haitian Creole course that follows the standards of the Akademi Kreyòl Ayisyen (Haitian Creole Academy).
Hundreds of people have gathered for Nyya’s public programs on Caribbean culture and spirituality and his recorded events garnered thousands of playbacks. He has presented his academic research nationally and internationally on linguistics, international affairs, and Black spirituality and social movement. Presently, Nyya serves as the co-editor for Dr. Samuel Cruz’s (life-long academic advisor) publication on Global Latinx Pentecostalism as well as a forthcoming book on African Spirituality in the Americas.
Nyya is a Junior Board member of the Congress of Santa Barbara (KOSANBA), as well as a member of the Haitian Studies Association and the Political Theology Network. He is a graduate of Florida International University (BA), Union Theological Seminary (M.A.R.), and The New School (M.A.). Through his consultancy agency, NEFT_Edits, Nyya offers freelance Haitian Creole translation services to top art museums, community engagement program developments for philanthropists and tech companies like Lyft, and curriculum development for nonprofits.
