Need proofreader for 62,000-word non-fiction book
Jenny worked quickly and her suggestions for vocabulary are useful. She pointed out some places where I had repeated words or used words that were similar and suggested alternatives.
However, she does not understand the basics of punctuation and particularly commas. I had to spend many hours undoing her changes because the vast majority were either random or patently wrong. For example, she frequently added commas between subjects and verbs, which obviously should never be done. She also put commas between two items in a list, when of course a list only needs commas when there are three or more items. Many of the changes she made turned grammatically correct sentences into completely incorrect ones! In several instances, she even added comma splices. These are the most serious of punctuation errors and even someone with the most rudimentary knowledge of grammar should know that. In particularly disturbing instances, she attempted to make changes to quotations from original sources and even tried altering book titles to make them wrong. In some places, she has attempted to add semi-colons but she doesn't have even the slightest idea how to use these. Overall, her knowledge of punctuation is close shockingly poor.
Here is a perfect example of Jenny's editing. My original sentence:
While most commentary on this aspect of the genre revolves around a post-colonial discourse, that is not necessarily its only purpose.

Now we have a sentence with two dependent clauses and no independent clauses! This is abysmal. Absolutely shocking. I've never seen such bad work on this platform before.
