Project details

Don't know where to start your next round of editing or how to ensure that you're making valuable changes? Maybe you feel too attached to the story as is and can't see how to make improvements even though you know they need to be made?

Here's the help you need! I have a talent for viewing a book with a critical eye that sees both the big-picture and the details of a book. Because I'm so well-read, I have a ton of experience identifying what works for readers as well as what works for an author's style. My suggestions and edits will be specific to the author's style and desired audience.

First, I perform a light evaluative read to get a big-picture vision of the book and ensure that this is the right step in the editing process for the manuscript. Then, I read-through again and take copious notes. Any changes or comments will be made either in margins or with track-changes on. Most notes and any big-picture notes will be included in the editorial letter provided at the end of my review which will also include advice for which round of editing would be best for you to have performed next.

Copyediting and proofreading of a manuscript 📕 Working with Katherine on my book as a first-time author was an absolute privilege!

She went above and beyond to ensure the manuscript became the best possible version of itself—clear, engaging, and accessible to the reader. Her unique word magic brought a sparkle to the text that elevated the book to new heights.

What stood out most was her holistic approach. She provided thoughtful developmental suggestions that aligned perfectly with the book’s purpose, while also demonstrating meticulous attention to detail in copy editing and proofreading.

Her ability to read the book through the lens of an ideal reader, a developmental editor, and a copy editor was invaluable. She truly understood the heart of the project and nurtured it with care and expertise.

Her energy and commitment were inspiring, making the entire process not only smooth but deeply motivating for me as an author.

She has a rare talent for extracting the best potential from the text while respecting the author’s voice and vision. Her thoughtful feedback and insightful suggestions ensured that every word served a purpose, and her dedication to excellence shone through in every aspect of her work.
Beyond her editing skills, her genuine passion for the project was evident throughout the process. She cared deeply about the book and its message, bringing a wholehearted enthusiasm that made me even more excited about sharing it with the world.

I couldn’t have asked for a better partner on this journey.

Katherine is a rare gem, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for an editor who combines exceptional skill, creativity, and a true love for her craft.

My book is better in every way because of her contribution and I can't wait to start working on my next book with her.

Grazie, cara Katherine!

ABOUT ME

When I'm not reading for entertainment (an average of about book every two days), or reading for editorial purposes, I am usually organizing or cleaning something else! I will even organize other's closets for fun. In other words, I'm a total weirdo, I get it.

Don't worry, I also love attending performances, finding great coffee shops, and finding unique, hole-in-the-wall, authentic foods from around the world. Thank goodness my home base is in one of the most diverse cities in the United States - Houston, Texas. We do not, contrary to popular misconception, wear cowboy hats or say "howdy" any more often than elsewhere else in the states. However, I do live on a ranch and help to care for 6 horses, 8 cats, and 2 snakes. I'm originally from Boulder, Colorado and while I do miss the mountains and wineries, the cultural opportunities down here are stellar.

EDITING STYLE

My zone of genius lies in organizing plot, developing story elements, character development, creating flow, and enhancing an author's personal style. I focus on the intention and voice of a piece as well as clarity, grammar, style and voice, consistency, and cohesiveness. My authors receive feedback from the "reader's perspective" in addition to my suggested edits to help keep them on target for their audience.

EXPERIENCE + QUALIFICATIONS

I have been writing and editing creatively and academically for nine years informally and have consistently produced effective and well-polished pieces. However, two years ago I decided to become professional. I began my foray into freelancing and now I get to work from home editing manuscripts every day. I have thoroughly fallen in love with the journey and have genuinely enjoyed every book and author I have had the pleasure to work with thus far.

My educational background is in the fields of political science, international affairs, and second languages, so technical communication is second nature even as much as the creative is my passion!

I am constantly increasing my formal qualifications by attending every online webinar and course possible - I'm an education junkie! Some of these courses and certifications include:
- EFA copyediting series
- EFA developmental editing series
- EFA editing for YA series
- EFA webinars for editing romance for YA, NA, and Adult audiences
- EFA CMOS webinars
- EFA webinars for sensitivity reading for DEI - diversity, equity, and inclusion
- EFA webinars on various subjects which continue to diversify and increase in number
