I shall try to recap the milestones of my adult life to give you an idea of where I am at today. I have a BA in English and Comparative Literature from The American University in Cairo (1975), a Masters degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from the same university(1978), where I taught both as a Fellow and as a staff member. In 1980, I moved to France where I spent seven years, working first as a research assistant to a sociologist on a United Nations University Project, and then as a freelance translator and language instructor to individuals and in language schools. Back in Egypt, where I stayed from 87/88 to 2008, I worked for a consulting firm specialized in development projects, first as editor, then as proposal writer and head of a technical review committee to ensure the quality of the firm’s documentation. In parallel, I started a holiday language camp for children: The ‘Lets Have Fun’ Club, where they practiced their English in a real-life, activity-related context: arts and crafts, music, gardening, story telling, etc. In addition, I started a newsletter for mothers and mothers-to-be called: “Kids Unlimited”.
