Work that's just been written needs a copy edit. I see things to correct like:
your character wearing a blue jumper on p40 that had changed to a green jumper on p42 (when the reader wasn't told there was a change of clothing on p41!)
Or sentences that need to be more succinct:
Before: High-quality learning facilities are a necessary precondition for enhancement of the ongoing business learning process.
After: Companies need to have good graduate programmes if they are to learn the business properly.
Or 'cm' needing to be 'mm' in a scientific experiment.
Work that's already been edited needs a proofread. I see things to correct like:
'there' when it should have been 'their';
or see your font is too big in your sub title;
or notice that you've used '[' instead of '('
I've always loved words. That's why I studied for an M.Phil in Publishing Studies. Desk top publishing was where I started my career after education, so not only did I copy edit and proofread, but I ventured into the creative world with learning basic layout and design skills. This led to a Diploma with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, as I was working more in marketing as my career progressed.
I've worked on many different materials, from academic papers, to marketing material, to technical and information documents. A re-branding project took me into project management where I was part of a team that was responsible for re-designing the logo, launching all new business material, and launching the brand new website. I then moved to the team that maintained the website - content and operation.
I also write creatively, having had some short stories published.
I wanted to run my own business, so I set up Wee Bear Editing. The flexibility I now have in my working career gives me the ability to give clients undivided attention to make their written material perfect.
