Wake & Make

How a celebration of coffee became something greater.

Our community is made up of talented people across over 180 countries. They’re fueled by creativity, hard work, and, yes, coffee. So when International Coffee Day came around, we had to celebrate in a way only Upwork could.

The proof is in the product.

As a community of makers, we decided to take matters into our own hands – creating our very own coffee line with the help of talented freelancers on Upwork. Even the beans had purpose, sourced from a roasting partner who shares our vision of a better world of work.

Better than a cup of “the usual.”

We partnered with five independent illustrators and one hand letterer to create The Artist Series. This limited-edition coffee line featured caffeine-inspired designs from around the globe, with a scannable QR code clients can use to hire the artists directly. Inside were beans from an independent roaster who’s visionary business model moved us to make the award-winning documentary, Beautiful Coffee.

Beautiful Coffee is a story of entrepreneurship, of creativity, and of what’s possible when we’re willing to break old systems to build a new way of working that actually works for everyone.

“It is really important, Red Bay Coffee is having a social impact just by operating. And we do that by intentionally building teams for folks with barriers to entry into this industry.”
