Graphic Designer for Privacy-First Tech Startup (Long-Term)
Worldwide
ABOUT US
Your Data Network is a privacy-first tech company based in Europe. We help people and organisations move away from Big Tech by offering alternatives like:
- Privacy-friendly smartphones
- Refurbished Linux laptops
- Nextcloud Remote (your own private cloud)
- Nodes for the decentralized internet
- VPN and other privacy tools
We already have a basic brand and style guide, but there is a lot of room to grow visually. We are looking for a designer who not only produces assets but also helps us lift our overall branding and visual identity to the next level.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a hands-on brand & marketing graphic designer for an ongoing collaboration of 5–10 hours per week.
In the beginning this will be max. ~5 hours per week, with the potential to grow over time.
You’ll create practical marketing assets (social posts, ads, flyers, manuals) and help us refine our visual style step by step so it perfectly reflects what we stand for.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
You don’t need to do everything on day one, but these are the main areas:
Social media & email visuals
- Static visuals for social media posts (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Mastodon, Telegram)
- Graphics and headers for email campaigns and newsletters
Ads (online & offline)
- Static online ads (social ads, display, banners)
- Simple offline ads (print ads, posters, etc.)
Promotional materials
- Flyers, one-pagers, simple brochures
- Visuals for events, meetups and talks
Manuals & guides
- Designing clear, user-friendly manuals and how-to guides
- Structuring content so it’s easy to follow and visually consistent
Social media profiles
- Profile and header images
- Visual consistency across all platforms
- Simple templates so we can post faster and more consistently
Branding & style
- Improving and expanding our existing style guide
- Helping us make visual choices (colors, typography, imagery) that fit our mission
- Keeping all assets aligned with a coherent brand look & feel
FIRST CONCRETE PROJECT (PAID TEST)
The first project you will work on is:
- Designing a manual / user guide based on an existing concept.
We already have:
- A layout concept for the manual (currently set up in Canva)
- The text/content ready
Your job is to:
- Turn this into a clean, readable, on-brand manual
- Make sure it feels professional and easy to understand
- Suggest improvements if you see better layout or visual solutions
You can work in your preferred design tool (Figma, Adobe, etc.), as long as we receive a version we can easily share with our users (for example as PDF).
We will use this as a paid test project. If we are both happy, we continue in a longer-term collaboration.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Turn our ideas and content into clear, attractive visuals
- Guard and improve our visual identity across all designs
- Make sure all assets are consistent (fonts, colors, spacing, tone)
- Deliver files in the right formats and sizes for web, social, email and print
- Work efficiently with shared assets (for example files we currently have in Canva)
- Communicate clearly, ask questions when something is unclear and propose ideas
- Think along about how our brand can look stronger, not just “do what is asked”
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
- Strong portfolio with marketing and brand design work
(for example: social posts, ads, flyers, manuals/guides, email visuals)
- Experience creating clean, modern, easy-to-read layouts
- Experience with at least one professional design tool (Figma and/or Adobe CC)
- Good understanding of formats and sizes for social media, email and print
- Good written English and clear communication
- Reliable, detail-oriented and able to work independently
NICE TO HAVE
(Not mandatory, but a big plus)
- Ability to create simple video ads (short social video edits / basic motion)
- Experience with tech, SaaS, Web3 or privacy-related projects
- Experience improving or creating a brand style guide
- Experience with web design and/or landing pages
- Experience working with Canva, so you can easily use or adapt some of our existing layouts
HOURS & COLLABORATION
- Start with a paid test project (the manual)
- Then move to an ongoing collaboration of ~5 hours per week
- Over time this may grow to 5–10 hours per week
- Fully remote, flexible timezone, as long as deadlines are met and communication is clear
HOW TO APPLY
Please include the following in your proposal:
1. A short intro about yourself and why this role fits you
