**Overview:**
Seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced bookkeeper/accountant to manage and prepare comprehensive financial records and supporting documentation for CPA audits and SEC filings. This critical role supports quarterly and annual S-1, 10-Q, and 10-K processes for a small public company or startup with relatively minimal transactional volume.
**Note:** A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) will be required to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive company financial information and protect proprietary data throughout the engagement.
### Key Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed general ledger and sub-ledgers (accounts payable, receivable, etc.).
- Reconcile bank statements and resolve discrepancies monthly.
- Record and document all transactions: sales, purchases, receipts, payments, payroll, and journal entries.
- Prepare draft financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and statement of shareholders’ equity.
- Organize all supporting documents for balances: invoices, receipts, contracts, bank and loan statements.
- Prepare aging reports for receivables and payables, and document inventory levels/valuations if applicable.
- Ensure proper documentation and depreciation schedules for fixed assets.
- Compile payroll records, benefits, and perform related reconciliations.
- Document accounting policies and internal control procedures in use.
- Draft footnotes to financial statements explaining key account balances and company policies.
- Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and other “Prepared By Client” (PBC) workpapers required for auditor review.
- Summarize and document material contracts, debts, leases, and legal contingencies.
- Respond efficiently to auditor questions and gather additional information as needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP and SEC regulations.
### Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years full-charge bookkeeping or staff accounting experience with a strong focus on preparing audit workpapers.
- Proven experience working with public company financials or supporting SEC filings highly preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and ability to organize audit schedules and working papers effectively.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and deadlines.
- Associate degree in accounting required; Bachelor’s preferred. Relevant bookkeeping/accounting certifications are a plus.
- Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to liaise with auditors and management.
- Ability to work independently in a startup or small public company environment with minimal volume but high compliance demands.
