I am a Certified Internal Controls Auditor who for over 20 years, have reviewed and created company policy and procedures as an internal auditor to ensure the safeguard of company assets including cash. Policies and procedures are the first step in protecting assets from theft as they set expectations for employees and management which can then be used to support legal actions if necessary. Policies provide direction and consistency to employees thus minimizing mistakes. Well established policies and procedures can also reduce training time for new or transitioning employees leading to more efficient and effective employees in a shorter period of time. Businesses both small or large cannot afford to be without detailed and specific policies and procedures.
