Audio mixing is the process of combining several sounds into single or multiple audio channels. During the process, volume level, frequency, dynamics, and panoramic positions may be augmented to achieve enhanced sound quality.

Mastering is the process of organizing and transferring recorded audio, whether it is music, dialogue, or other sounds, to a version that contains a final mix. Once stored in its final storage device, that final mix is considered the master.

Mixing is a series of steps taken when manipulating and combining audio in preparation for its final form. Once the mixing has been complete, the mastering process begins. Mixing is the combining and enhancing of audio, while mastering is the final preparation for storage of that audio.
