Enclosure Design

Description: We are a US-based HVAC company developing a connected smart thermostat for the residential market. Working electronics prototypes are complete and tested. We now need an experienced designer to create a production-intent enclosure. What the product is Wall-mounted thermostat with a 5" capacitive touchscreen Two-board design: a wall backplate (power and HVAC wiring terminals) and a front head unit (display and sensors) connected by a cable PCB STEP files, board dimensions, and component placement will be provided after NDA Design requirements Premium, modern look suitable for a residential living space Backplate with a clean, installer-friendly wiring area and secure mounting to standard wall boxes and drywall Head unit that attaches and detaches easily from the backplate Proper airflow and thermal isolation so the temperature and humidity sensor reads room air, not display heat Openings or windows for an ambient light sensor, a front-facing presence sensor (mmWave radar, needs an RF-transparent area), two microphones, and a small speaker Designed for injection molding (draft, wall thickness, snap fits, minimal secondary operations) Support for contractor branding shown on screen (no printed logo required on the housing) Deliverables Concept sketches or renders (2 to 3 directions) Final 3D CAD (STEP plus native files) for backplate and head unit DFM review for injection molding One round of 3D-printed prototypes for fit testing Revisions after fit testing Please include in your proposal Estimated timeline broken out by phase (concept, CAD, prototype, revisions) Fixed-price quote for the design scope above Your experience with consumer electronics enclosures, especially wall-mounted devices, thermostats, or smart home products Samples or links to previous enclosure work (renders and photos of manufactured products preferred) Whether you or your team can also produce the enclosure (prototyping, tooling, injection molding). If so, please note this separately; it will be quoted as a separate project. Nice to have Experience designing around radar or wireless sensors, microphones, or temperature-sensing products Knowledge of UL / ETL considerations for HVAC controls US-based or overlapping US Eastern hours An NDA is required before design files are shared.
