Find and Vet Licensed Asbestos Abatement Companies in Central Missouri

We are a family looking for an organized, persistent person to help us find, contact, vet, and interview licensed asbestos inspection and abatement companies for a single-family house in central Missouri (between Sedalia and Jefferson City). This is a fully remote role. We need someone who will make the calls, get the answers in writing, and give us a clear side-by-side comparison so we can choose the right firm. BACKGROUND - Independent lab testing (PLM) of dust found in an interior attic stairwell came back positive for chrysotile asbestos. - We expect the scope may include the attic, attic insulation, the stairwell, and possibly the HVAC system and living areas. The full extent has not yet been determined. - We want a proper, fully documented process: (1) an independent inspection and sampling to define the scope, (2) abatement by a Missouri-registered contractor, and (3) independent clearance testing afterward. The work must be documented well enough to support an insurance claim. WHAT YOU WILL DO 1. Build a target list. Use the Missouri DNR directories of registered asbestos contractors and certified inspectors, plus other sources. Cover Sedalia, Columbia, Jefferson City, and Lee's Summit first, then Kansas City and St. Louis if needed. Keep independent inspectors/consultants separate from abatement contractors. 2. Contact each firm by phone and email and find out: - Current Missouri DNR registration, and the certifications of the individuals who would do the work - Residential experience, especially attics, loose insulation, and HVAC/ductwork contamination - Insurance, including pollution or asbestos liability coverage (ask for a sample certificate of insurance) - Whether they will travel to the site, and their current lead times - How they handle DNR notification, containment, HEPA cleanup, waste disposal, and final clearance air testing - Whether clearance testing is done by an independent third party - How they price the work, and what a written proposal from them includes - Two or three references from recent residential jobs 3. Verify licensing yourself against the DNR directory, and screen out any firm that cannot confirm registration or insurance. 4. Schedule and join short phone or video interviews with the top 3 to 5 firms, and take notes. 5. Collect written proposals and organize them so they compare like for like. 6. Keep a shared spreadsheet tracker: every firm contacted, contact details, date and result of each contact, license and insurance verification, and notes. Finish with a short written recommendation. GROUND RULES - Your contact is limited to inspection and abatement firms. Please do not contact any other party about the property. - This matter is confidential. We will share the exact address and the lab report only after hire, and we will ask you to sign a short confidentiality agreement. - Please disclose any relationship with, or referral arrangement from, any firm you contact. IDEAL BACKGROUND - Comfortable making calls to businesses and following up until you get an answer - Clear written English and well organized spreadsheets - Available by phone during US Central Time business hours - Experience with asbestos, environmental, construction, property management, or insurance restoration projects is a strong plus ENGAGEMENT Hourly, estimated 15 to 25 hours over 2 to 3 weeks, with possible continued help coordinating the project once a firm is selected.
