Academic Editor, Indexer, and Annotator for Nonfiction Book on Societal Shifts
Worldwide
I am seeking a skilled and detail-oriented editorial professional (or team) to finalize my completed nonfiction book, Far Past the Point of No Return: An Examination of Irreversible Shifts in Society’s Core Institutions by Dr. Aaron Lewis. This book critically examines dramatic, irreversible changes across democracy, technology, medicine, faith, education, psychology, and free expression—especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerating global surveillance. The subject matter is complex, controversial, and requires intellectual courage and sensitivity. Scope of Work: 1. Chapter Notes & Academic References: * After each chapter, create a concise, one-page set of notes summarizing key points and including relevant academic references. * After reading each chapter, research and identify relevant academic references to be cited, using Chicago style for all citations. You will compile comprehensive reference lists after each chapter. I will provide a few initial references for some chapters, but these are only a starting point; your expertise is needed to supplement and strengthen the reference base, selecting sources that best support the chapter’s arguments and overall theme. * Notes should focus on summarizing arguments and evidence, with no discussion questions. 2. Comprehensive Index Creation: * Identify and compile key terms, concepts, and names for a thorough index (thematic, conceptual, and name-based). * Once the final layout is completed, assign page numbers to all indexed entries. * Index should be suitable for academic and general readers. 3. Light Editorial Review: * Conduct a read-through of the manuscript for grammar, flow, and clarity, applying a light editorial touch. * Preserve the author’s distinctive style; no rewriting or major edits. * Fix errors, awkward phrasing, and inconsistencies as needed. Book Details: * Total word count (with notes and index): up to 45,000 words. * Seven chapters focusing on irreversible shifts in core societal institutions. * Sensitive and critical subject matter; candidates must be comfortable with bold social commentary. Ideal Candidate: * Experienced academic editor, indexer, and annotator (open to collaboration if necessary). * Proficient in Chicago citation style. * Strong research skills for sourcing and verifying references. * Familiarity with indexing nonfiction and academic works. * Comfortable engaging with controversial, critical material. How to Apply: Please provide: * Your relevant experience (editing, indexing, annotating). * Evidence of proficiency in Chicago style. * Samples of academic notes, indexing, or light editing work. * Confirmation of your comfort with sensitive subject matter. Brief Synopsis for Candidates: Far Past the Point of No Return critically investigates irreversible shifts across key societal institutions, from democracy and digital privacy to medicine, faith, education, psychology, and freedom of expression. Through historical analysis and current events—including the COVID-19 pandemic—the book explores how these institutions have been fundamentally transformed, often under pressure from corporate, technological, and governmental forces. The work calls for renewed vigilance, independent thought, and reform, serving as both a warning and a challenge to readers. Candidates should be comfortable with bold critique and complex, sensitive subject matter.
