Accounting Manager, Freight Brokerage (Part-Time)

We're a US-based freight broker moving complex, time-sensitive, coordination-heavy freight: heavy haul, breakbulk, and multi-stop industrial loads. Revenue has grown materially this year and the accounting function needs to catch up with the volume. This is the senior hire that makes that happen. You'll work directly with our AR specialist and the owner, and you'll have real say in how the function gets built. This is contract, part-time, and remote, with room to grow into a full-time role for the right person. What you'll own: Month-end close: calendar, journal entries, reconciliations, financials out by the 10th Factoring accounting: advances, reserves, holdbacks, fees and chargebacks, plus reconciling the factor portal to the GL every week AR and AP oversight, working alongside our AR specialist on the harder items rather than above her Bank reconciliations and cleaning up the chart of accounts Mentoring and leading accounting staff, sharing what you know and helping people grow Monthly financials a third party could review and rely on What you need: 5+ years in accounting, including time leading or mentoring staff Freight brokerage, 3PL, or transportation accounting experience. This one is non-negotiable. Carrier costs, accessorials, and margin per load should be familiar territory. Hands-on experience with invoice factoring. You should be able to explain how advances, reserves, and fees hit the balance sheet and why. QuickBooks experience Comfortable being the most senior accounting person in the room and comfortable doing the entry yourself Nice to have: CPA Experience with a TMS Details: 20 to 25 hours a week, contract, 1099 $55 to $85 an hour depending on experience Remote, with a preference for candidates who can go hybrid in Asheville, NC or Cleveland, OH Start (ASAP) within one to two weeks If you've closed the books for a brokerage or 3PL and factoring is second nature to you, I want to hear from you.
