Design Brief – UK Pet Insurance Market Report 2026 Client: Procurato – Procurement & Claims Consultancy Project: Polish and finalise a thought-leadership market report to publication standard Audience: Senior decision-makers in UK pet insurance (e.g. Chief Claims Officers, Chief Underwriting Officers, Claims Directors, Head of Claims, Head of Pet Claims, Head of Pet, Head of Product (Pet), Pricing & Actuarial Leads, Strategy Leads) 1. What this project is We have already built a complete 58-page skeleton of this report. The content is final, the structure is set, and the brand fundamentals are applied. We are not asking you to design this from a blank page. We are asking a designer with a strong editorial eye to take the skeleton and lift it to the standard of our existing No-nonsense CPO Playbook, which is attached as the benchmark. Think of this as art direction and craft, not layout from scratch. The structural work is done. What it needs is the finish a systematic build cannot give itself. 2. Project objectives -Present a dense, insight-heavy report in a clear, engaging and digestible format -It should look professional and crisp, with great visuals and a sharp focus on analytics -Deliver a high-quality result cost-effectively, with potential for ongoing design work 3. What already exists (and should be preserved) -A4 portrait, two balanced columns matching the CPO Playbook grid (14.5mm / 13mm margins, 2 × 87mm columns, 6mm gutter) -Body set in Sentinel 12.5pt on 16.6pt leading, measured directly from the Playbook artwork -Headings in Neue Haas Grotesk Display Pro, UI labels and data in Inter Tight -Full brand palette applied – Procurato Deep, Royal Blue, Aqua and Navy, per the brand guidelines -Clear section hierarchy across Sections 1–7 plus Appendix, with dark full-bleed section dividers carrying oversized section numerals -Callout system covering Key Findings, Insurer Implications, Section Conclusions and Key Market Dynamics -Icon card grids, matrix cards (qualitative tables rendered as cards), recommendation cards, tick lists -Key statistics pulled out as bold visual callouts in stat bands -Two custom data charts, a clickable contents page, running heads and section tabs -"About the Authors" and "About Procurato" back matter with the author headshots hyperlinked Please keep this system intact. Improve it, don't replace it. Note on callouts: the original brief specified a fourth callout type, Strategic Implications. That label does not appear in the final copy, so it is not in the build. If it appears in a future version, please carry the same treatment across. 4. Scope of work 4.1 Bring the Playbook's decorative language across This is the single most important item. The CPO Playbook carries an oversized outline of the Procurato symbol – the vertical bar mark, drawn as fine line art in pale aqua and grey, cropped so it bleeds off the page edge. It sits top-right and bottom-right on most interior pages, behind the content, at very low contrast. The report currently has none of this, and it is the main reason the skeleton reads flatter than the Playbook. Apply it consistently across interior pages using the Playbook's own construction, weight, scale and crop logic, and its restraint – it should register peripherally and never compete with the copy. Also review and apply, where they genuinely improve the page: -The Playbook's rounded-corner frame treatment and its exact corner radii -Subtle Aqua–Deep and Navy–Deep gradients per the brand Style System -Geometric and wordmark patterns for structure, not distraction -Refinements to spacing, optical alignment and rhythm that a trained eye catches 4.2 Imagery We have supplied nine photographs we already own or have used: pets, pets with people, vets with animals, families at home. Two are pre-composed double-image assets with transparent backgrounds. Preferred: source higher-quality stock in the same vein – pets, and pets with humans – better matching our imagery guidelines (professional, contextual, non-generic, natural ambient lighting, candid rather than posed). Acceptable fallback: use the images we have supplied. Most supplied files are low resolution. That is fine on screen but not for print across a full-width band. If you use them, advise where that limits us. Placement is your call, guided by the Playbook, which sets images at full column width within the column measure. Imagery should be used sparingly, with data visualisation prioritised over photography. 4.3 Data visualisation The report is data-dense and design must elevate the insight: -Key statistics presented as bold visual callouts -Tables converted into clean, readable layouts -Charts used for market trends, price comparisons and cost breakdowns -All visuals simple, interpretable at a glance and consistent in style -Charts designed for clarity, never decoration Two charts already exist. Refine them to publication standard and advise where further charts would earn their place – several tables would land harder as visuals. 4.4 Navigation Preserve and improve: -Clickable table of contents -Clear section hierarchy (Sections 1–7 plus Appendix) -Internal navigation links between sections -Strong visual anchors: section dividers, headers, callouts -Links (sources, the author headshots in the back matter) -Contents page numbers are currently placeholders. Please set them correctly once pagination is final. 4.5 Production and conversion -Convert the supplied PDF into InDesign yourself, or rebuild it there. We do not run InDesign in-house and cannot supply the indesign file for the report. -Web-optimised PDF for gated download, with clickable contents and internal navigation preserved -Print-ready PDF in CMYK with appropriate margins and bleeds -Editable InDesign source files, packaged with fonts and links 5. Absolute constraint: the copy must not change This is non-negotiable and will be checked mechanically on delivery. Not one word, character or mark of the report copy may be altered. No rewriting, no condensing, no "tightening", no re-punctuating, no changing capitalisation, no re-breaking headings across lines, and no adding labels, standfirsts or link text we did not write. Specifically: -No em dashes (—). The source contains zero of them. It uses en dashes (–) only, and those must stay exactly where they are. Do not let a conversion tool substitute one for the other. -Do not alter quotation marks, apostrophes or spacing around dashes. -Do not add captions, kickers or headings of your own, however helpful they seem. -If a heading looks too long, a table too wide or a paragraph awkward, come back to us. We decide. Do not solve it in the copy. You must run a verbatim check against the original Word document before each delivery. 6. Functional requirements -Clickable internal navigation throughout the PDF -Legible on mobile without zooming (see note below) -Clear formatting of tables and data-heavy sections -Charts and visualisations designed for clarity, not decoration -Print version in CMYK with appropriate margins and bleeds Note on mobile: the original brief called for a mobile-first layout. We have settled on two balanced columns on A4, matching the CPO Playbook, and we are not pursuing a separate single-column mobile edition. Within that decision, make the document as legible on a phone as it can be – generous type size, strong contrast, clear hierarchy. Do not propose a single-column restructure. 7. Brand guidelines (summary – full document supplied) Logo -Horizontal layout preferred -Maintain clear space and approved colour usage Colours -Primary: Procurato Deep · Procurato Royal Blue · White -Secondary: Procurato Aqua · Procurato Navy Typography -Headings: Neue Haas Grotesk Display Pro -Body: Sentinel -UI, labels and data: Inter Tight Sentinel is the body face for this report, matching the CPO Playbook. Please keep it. The brand book lists Inter as an alternative body face; it is not what we want here. Iconography -Flat, minimal, rounded edges -Monochrome brand colours Imagery style -Use sparingly – prioritise data visualisation over photography -When used: professional, contextual, non-generic Style system -Rounded corner frames -Subtle gradients (Aqua–Deep, Navy–Deep) -Geometric and brand patterns for structure, not distraction 8. Creative direction Overall direction More data-led and focused on graphs than the CPO Playbook, while matching its craft and finish. Feel Structured · Insight-heavy · Credible · Strategic · Executive-level Design priorities -Clarity over creativity -Data visualisation over imagery -Strong hierarchy for long-form reading Mood Authoritative, intelligent, commercial, evidence-based. Maintain a senior, analytical tone throughout. Audience experience -Feels like a premium industry report -Designed for senior insurance professionals -Enables quick scanning and deep reading -Makes complex ideas easier to absorb Application principles -Must work equally well printed and on screen -Break up dense content with section dividers, callouts and visual summaries -Highlight insights clearly (Implications, Key Findings and so on) -Design should be reusable for future reports 9. Usage and distribution -Gated download for prospective clients (primary use) -Outreach to insurance decision-makers -Supporting asset for professional campaigns -Referenced in sales conversations and meetings -Potentially printed for industry events and roundtables 10. Deliverables 1. Full market report – web-optimised and print-ready PDFs 2. Editable InDesign source files, packaged with fonts and links 3. Data visualisation assets (charts, graphs, tables) 11. Timeline -Project start: ASAP -First concept: designer to propose. We would like 3–4 sample spreads before you work through the full document -Final delivery: designer to propose, including 1–2 revision rounds 12. Budget Please propose a cost-effective approach aligned with a growing consultancy. Quote should include: -Full report polish -Imagery placement -Data visualisation refinement -1–2 rounds of revisions 13.
