Agricultural Equipment Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical Design Engineer – Agricultural Sprayer Booms (contract, remote) AME Group and Agri Automation Australia design and build agricultural machinery in South Australia, including sprayers, canopy and pruning equipment, and autonomous platforms. We are looking for an experienced mechanical designer to add capacity to our engineering team, starting with sprayer boom design and drafting and continuing on other projects if it works well. The work 3D design of sprayer booms: welded steel/aluminium sections, fold and breakaway hinges, hydraulic cylinder integration, mounting interfaces to the sprayer chassis Fabrication drawing packages: shop drawings with weld symbols, cut lists, flat patterns, BOMs Design review and iteration with our workshop and field feedback FEA on boom deflection and hinge/bracket loading where required What we are looking for Proven experience designing agricultural or similar field machinery (trailers, truck bodies, mining or construction attachments also relevant) Strong SolidWorks and Fusion 360 skills, particularly weldments and sheet metal Ability to produce drawings a fabricator can build from without coming back with questions Interest in current practice: lightweight structures, modular sections, designing for automation and sensor integration rather than repeating what booms looked like twenty years ago Clear written communication and reliable turnaround; we work across time zones Deliverables Native SolidWorks and Fusion 360 files, STEP exports, PDF and DWG drawings, BOM. Drawings to AS 1100 or ISO. Engagement Initial paid trial task (one folding boom with breakaway hinge and ground following wheel) to confirm fit, then ongoing project work.
