3D Artist: Create Web-Optimized GLB Models of Bikes, Frames & Components from Photos

Posted 2 weeks ago

Worldwide

Summary

We run a Belgian cycling brand with a custom-built 3D bike configurator on our Next.js website. We're looking for a skilled 3D artist who can turn product photos into clean, web-optimized GLB models for this configurator. Since we built the configurator in-house, we can adapt it to your output -- but we do expect clean, consistently structured GLB files. What you'll do - Create accurate 3D models of bikes, frames, wheels, tires and components based on reference photos we provide (multiple angles per product) - Apply realistic PBR materials and textures (paint, carbon, rubber, metal) - Optimize every model for real-time web rendering: low poly count, compressed textures, small file size - Export to GLB (glTF 2.0), ready to drop into our configurator - Structure models so parts can be swapped or recolored in the configurator (logically separated meshes with clear, consistent naming) Technical requirements per model - Format: GLB (glTF 2.0), Draco compression is a plus - Target: max ~100k triangles per full bike, less for single components - Textures: PBR (base color, metallic/roughness, normal), max 2048x2048, ideally 1024x1024 - Real-world scale, correct pivot points, clean topology - Consistent mesh/material naming across all models (we'll provide a naming convention) Who we're looking for - Proven experience modeling hard-surface products from photo references (no 3D scans available) - Strong portfolio with web-ready 3D work (GLB/glTF) -- bonus points for bikes, vehicles or other technical products - Experience with Blender or similar, and with optimizing assets for Three.js / React Three Fiber / web viewers - Reliable communication in English and consistent delivery quality How we'll work - We start with **one paid test model** (a bike frame) to check quality, file size and workflow - After approval: ongoing collaboration with a fixed price per model, batch by batch - We provide reference photos, dimensions where available, and feedback per round To apply, please include: 1. Links to 2-3 web-optimized 3D models you made (GLB/glTF preferred, e.g. Sketchfab) 2. Your fixed price for one bike frame and for one complete bike 3. Your typical turnaround time per model 4. Start your proposal with the word "SPROCKET" so we know you read the full post Screening questions (Upwork instellen) 1. Have you created GLB/glTF models specifically optimized for web/Three.js? Share an example. 2. What is your workflow for modeling a product when you only have photos (no scans or CAD)? 3. What's your price per model for (a) a single component like a tire, (b) a complete bike?
