AI Audiobook / Podcast Audio Engineer — OpenVox
Worldwide
We are looking for an experienced **audio engineer / producer** to help us create an episodic audio version of a new fiction book series. This is not technically a podcast, but the listening experience will have some of the feel and production quality of one. Our books are released **chapter by chapter**, with 25 chapters per book. Each chapter is approximately **2,500 words**. ## What You'll Be Doing For each chapter, we will provide you with: * The final written chapter * The AI voice we have selected for narration * A short spoken introduction/welcome * A short teaser for the next chapter * Our signature music/jingle Your job will be to turn these elements into a polished, enjoyable audio episode. The basic structure will be: **Spoken chapter introduction → Signature music/jingle → Chapter narration → Next-chapter teaser/outro** ## OpenVox Experience Is Important We intend to use **OpenVox** for the primary narration workflow, so you must be comfortable working with OpenVox or confident that you can learn it quickly. If you don't currently own it, that's fine. It costs approximately **US$20 and we will cover the cost** for the successful applicant. You will take each written chapter and generate the narration using the voice we have selected. But we do NOT want someone who simply presses "generate" and sends us the resulting audio. You will need to listen to and quality-check the output and fix obvious problems such as: * Incorrect pronunciations * Strange pauses or lack of pauses * Sentences running together * Awkward pacing * AI voice glitches or artifacts * Incorrect emphasis * Unnatural spacing * Audio inconsistencies * Sections that need to be regenerated It doesn't need to sound artificially perfect. In fact, we'd rather retain some humanity than endlessly polish it. But it needs to be **very good and enjoyable to listen to**. ## AI Skills You should also be comfortable using AI tools as part of your workflow. For example, you may need to prepare or modify the written chapter before putting it through OpenVox — adding spacing, punctuation, pauses or other cues that help the AI narrator perform the material naturally. We are particularly interested in someone who understands that **good AI narration starts with preparing the text correctly**, rather than trying to fix everything afterwards in an audio editor. ## Final Production Once the chapter narration is working properly, you will assemble the complete episode, including the spoken intro, our short signature music/jingle, the chapter itself and the outro/teaser for the next chapter. You'll then mix, level and export the finished audio so that every chapter has a consistent sound. ## The Project This is part of a new fiction publishing project producing serialized **Romance Noir** stories. Each book contains approximately: **25 chapters × 2,500 words = approximately 62,500 words of narration** We expect this to become an ongoing project across multiple books, so we're particularly interested in finding **one person who can develop the workflow with us and then handle production consistently over time.** ## Who We're Looking For You don't necessarily need years of traditional audiobook experience. We're more interested in someone who is: * Technically confident with audio * Experienced with AI voice generation * Comfortable experimenting with OpenVox * Good at spotting AI narration mistakes * Able to edit and mix spoken-word audio * Detail-oriented without being obsessively perfectionistic * Interested in developing an efficient repeatable production workflow Experience producing **audiobooks, narrative podcasts, fiction podcasts or other spoken-word content** would be a major advantage. When applying, please tell us: 1. What audio editing software you use. 2. What experience you have with AI-generated voices. 3. Whether you've used OpenVox before. 4. Whether you've produced audiobooks, podcasts or narrative audio. 5. How you would approach quality-checking a 2,500-word AI-narrated chapter. 6. Please include examples of relevant audio work if you have them. **Please start your application with the words "CHAPTER ONE" so we know you've actually read the brief.**
