Summary

We're an early-stage startup developing a compact plug-in module for GM light trucks and SUVs that interfaces with the vehicle through the OBD-II port. We're looking for an experienced PCB design engineer to take the concept to production-ready design files. Scope of work: Schematic capture and PCB layout for a compact OBD-II-connected module Deliverables: schematic (PDF + source), Gerber/ODB++, BOM, and pick-and-place files Design around an automotive-grade MCU with an integrated or external CAN transceiver (ISO 11898) Robust 12V automotive front-end: reverse-polarity, load-dump/transient protection (ISO 7637), wide operating temp range Low quiescent current — the device stays connected to the OBD port, so battery draw must be minimized The module must not set diagnostic trouble codes or trip OBD readiness monitors in normal operation Enclosure-friendly layout (target dimensions provided on award) Design for manufacturability at 1,000–5,000 unit volumes Requirements: Must be based in the United States, with all design work performed in the US (hard requirement for our sourcing and documentation) Strong portfolio of automotive or OBD-II / CAN bus PCB designs Proficient in [Altium / KiCad / your preferred tool] with clean, well-documented deliverables Experience taking a design from schematic through DFM review and first article Familiarity with GM AFM/DFM (cylinder deactivation) behavior is a strong plus Nice to have: Automotive EMC/EMI design experience Experience with always-connected 12V devices and quiescent-current management US-based manufacturing experience and existing relationships with US PCB fabs / assembly houses — being able to point us to domestic production partners is a big plus
