BIM Building Designer / Architectural Technician – Australian Shed Projects

I run an Australian building and construction business specialising in custom steel portal-framed sheds, workshops and complete associated site works. Our projects often involve much more than the shed itself. Depending on the project, the scope can include retaining walls, cut and fill, driveways, aprons, paths and other hard landscaping, concrete works, stormwater, sewer/plumbing, electrical, internal bathrooms/amenities and other integrated site works. I am looking for an experienced 3D BIM building designer / architectural technician to assist with an immediate project, with the intention of continuing on an ongoing part-time basis if the relationship works well. THIS IS NOT AN AUTOCAD 2D DRAFTING ROLE. I need someone whose normal workflow is based around a modern 3D BIM/building-design model, where plans, elevations and sections are generated from and remain coordinated with the underlying 3D model. I do not require any particular software package. Revit, ArchiCAD, Vectorworks or another suitable professional 3D building-design/BIM platform is acceptable. The important requirement is the capability and outputs, not the software brand. I need someone capable of modelling and documenting the complete site, not just the shed/building envelope. IMMEDIATE PROJECT The first project is a custom steel portal-framed shed/workshop on a significantly sloping residential site in Queensland, Australia. The design is already substantially developed. The immediate objective is to establish a clean, accurate and coordinated 3D model of the entire site and building, and produce a professional drawing package suitable for structural engineering and development/building approval. Should this initial phase demonstrate the capability required, there is significant further design work on this same project — shed integration, internal fit-out and full construction documentation — in addition to the ongoing work described below. LONGER TERM ROLE If this project goes well, I want to continue using the successful person across future projects — sloping-site and terrain modelling, sheds/workshops, retaining walls, driveways and hard landscaping, stormwater, sewer/plumbing, electrical, DA/building approval drawings and later construction documentation. I will remain responsible for dealing with customers, engineers, planners and certifiers. You will work directly with me. WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR - Strong 3D BIM/building-modelling skills. - Strong technical drawing/documentation ability. - Ability to build accurate 3D site/terrain models from registered survey information, including 2D/3D DWG or similar survey data. - Good understanding of construction and site works. - Detail-oriented, able to identify clashes or missing information. - Good written and spoken English. - Ability to transfer the complete 3D model into SOLIDWORKS so it can be reliably opened and measured at the correct scale and position. Experience with Australian DA/BA drawing sets and building documentation is strongly preferred, but not mandatory. Experience with steel portal-framed sheds/workshops is beneficial but not mandatory — the structural frame itself is generally engineered and designed separately. Please explain the format/workflow you would normally use. This is initially a 1–3 month project, with potential for ongoing part-time work.
