Bookkeeping and US Tax Preparation Specialist

Join our US CPA firm as a Bookkeeping and Tax Preparation Specialist! Strong bookkeeping fundamentals and attention to detail are required. Prior US tax experience is helpful, but we are willing to train the right candidate. Our goal is to find someone who wants to develop professionally, assume increasing responsibility, and build a long-term relationship with the firm. Responsibilities: - Complete bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up projects - Perform monthly bookkeeping and bank and credit-card reconciliations - Review transaction classifications and investigate discrepancies - Maintain accurate, organized financial records in QuickBooks Online - Prepare supporting schedules and year-end workpapers - Organize client tax documents and identify missing information - Assist with individual and business tax-return preparation - Conduct supervised tax research and summarize findings - Maintain clear notes explaining completed work and unresolved questions - Meet assigned deadlines and communicate potential delays promptly This will start out as a 60-day engagement, with the potential to turn into a more long-term relationship. This will probably start around 5-10 hours per week, but some times are busier and some are quite slow. Required Qualifications: - Practical understanding of bookkeeping and financial accounting - Understanding of debits, credits, bank reconciliations, and financial statements - Comfortable learning new software and procedures - Strong written English and professional communication - Ability to handle confidential client and taxpayer information securely - QuickBooks Online experience - Integrity: 100% honesty at all times - MOST IMPORTANTLY: Willingness to accept feedback and grow Preferred, but Not Required - Experience preparing workpapers or organizing tax documents - Familiarity with US individual or business tax returns - Accounting degree or professional accounting studies - CPA, EA, or other relevant credential or progress toward one What makes us unique: - Small firm with real growth opportunities - we want to help you become an EA and/or CPA - Direct training and feedback from a US CPA - Exposure to bookkeeping, tax preparation, tax research, and advisory work - Opportunity to assume more responsibility as your skills develop - Flexible scheduling: set your own working hours and time off as long as deadlines and communication expectations are met - No expectation that you remain online simply to appear busy - Long-term potential for the right person
