Brand Identity Designer for Technical Design

Summary

’m launching a company called By Others, a founder-led technology design and project delivery practice for the built environment, and I’m looking for a strong brand/identity designer to help me finish the brand properly. This is not a blank-sheet branding exercise, and I’m not looking for someone to generate a bunch of random logo concepts. I’ve already done a lot of the foundational work. I have the company name and positioning, a detailed creative brief, logo and wordmark studies, color references, typography direction, visual inspiration, domains, and a portfolio of actual work that will eventually live on the website. What I need is a creative partner who can understand all of that, see what is working, tell me where I’m wrong, and turn it into a cohesive professional identity. About the company The name By Others comes directly from architecture and construction documents. Architects know technology is required in a building — networks, wireless, AV, security, access control, controls, structured cabling, etc. — but there is not always a clearly defined party responsible for it during design. So the drawings acknowledge the requirement and move on: BY OTHERS. The company is built around stepping into that gap. By Others can provide technology design and engineering, technical drafting and documentation, estimating, project delivery and coordination, programming/configuration, commissioning, technical manuals, 3D visualization, and other work that often falls between disciplines or between the sale and the finished system. It can work directly for owners and project teams or behind the scenes as an extension of an integrator, consultant, contractor, manufacturer, architect, or engineering firm. Where the brand currently stands The strongest logo direction is a handwritten / architectural-style BY OTHERS wordmark. I also want to explore a flexible identity around the name rather than forcing one permanent tagline. For example: TECHNOLOGY — BY OTHERS DESIGN — BY OTHERS PROJECT DELIVERY — BY OTHERS COMMISSIONING — BY OTHERS Those are examples of the idea, not finished lockups or separate sub-brands. I’ve also explored a compact BO mark for applications like social profiles, favicons, drawing title blocks, stamps, etc. Visually, I’m drawn to a mix of clean modern design and the technical/documentation world I work in. I like the visual language of engineering drawings, markups, redlines, grids, details, and title blocks, but I do not want the brand turned into a fake blueprint or CAD gimmick. For color, I’m particularly drawn to purple and orange, with some teal/cyan, black, white/off-white, and muted neutrals in the references I’ve collected. For typography, my current preference is: Berkoh — primary Host Grotesk — secondary Again, I’m looking for professional judgment around how all of this ultimately comes together. The portfolio matters I have a fairly large body of technical work that I want to feature on the website, including systems engineering and design, technical drawings, Bluebeam coordination and markups, 3D visualization, technical manuals/guides, diagrams, layouts, schedules, and other project documentation. I want the identity and eventual website to make that work look compelling without pretending it is something it isn’t. The actual work should be a major part of the visual story. What I need I’m looking for someone who can take the existing direction and develop it into a professional identity system, including: Refinement/finalization of the BY OTHERS wordmark Flexible contextual lockups / brand language Compact / small-format mark Color system Typography hierarchy Supporting graphic language Portfolio/image treatment Basic website art direction Examples of the identity applied to real materials such as a website, project sheet, drawing/title block, proposal, presentation, or social profile Final production-ready logo and brand assets Simple brand guidelines so I can use the system consistently I’m not necessarily hiring for full website development as part of this project. The immediate priority is getting the identity and creative direction right so the website can follow it. Who I’m looking for I’d like to work with an actual designer who thinks about brands as systems, not someone running logos through a template. Experience with architecture, engineering, industrial design, construction, professional services, technical companies, or editorial identity work would be especially interesting, although it is not required if your portfolio demonstrates the right thinking. I care a lot about typography, layout, restraint, and understanding why something works. I’m also not looking for someone who will simply agree with everything I’ve already created. I’ve done enough exploration to communicate the territory, but I want a professional designer to improve it. When applying Please send a few examples of identity systems you personally designed, especially projects where the logo, typography, color, and broader visual system all work together. I’d also like to hear briefly how you would approach a project where the client already has substantial strategy, visual exploration, and a clear point of view. If your portfolio is mostly generic technology logos, AI-generated marks, or large sheets of unrelated logo concepts, this probably will not be the right fit. I have a detailed creative brief and visual reference boards ready to share with the selected designer.
