Brand Illustrations with Character Development for Baby Brand

Melonbug is a small heirloom baby brand looking for an illustrator to help develop a distinctive visual world around our existing brand character. Our brand is built around childhood, family, and the idea that ordinary little things can become treasures. The Melonbug world is viewed from a very small perspective — grass can tower overhead, a marble can be a remarkable discovery, and the tiny things children notice and adults often walk past can feel enormously important. We are looking for a skilled illustrator who can take our existing Melonbug logo character and help develop how the character moves, explores, and interacts with this tiny world. The goal is not children’s-book illustration or a traditional narrative. We are building a recognizable visual language for the brand, and need illustrations to be used in digital applications (website, email marketing, social media, etc) as well as print applications (packaging, business cards, thank-you cards, package inserts, etc). The style should feel contemporary, warm, imaginative, clean, and visually refined — with personality and a sense of wonder, but not overly cute, cartoonish, or conventionally “baby.” We are especially interested in an artist who understands the way childhood gives meaning to small things. We already have an established brand identity, color palette, character, and detailed creative brief. We have a clear vision, but we also want an illustrator with a strong artistic point of view who can contribute ideas rather than simply execute instructions. Initial project: Character development and a foundational collection of artwork to begin establishing the Melonbug visual world. This may include individual illustrated elements, small vignettes, repeating patterns, and other brand artwork. We will provide the selected illustrator with a detailed creative brief that includes direction and examples of the world we are developing, and ideas for potential illustration elements. THE $1000 FIXED-PRICE BUDGET SHOWN ON THIS LISTING IS AN INITIAL ESTIMATE, NOT A PREDETERMINED PROJECT TOTAL. Final scope and pricing will depend on the number and type of illustrations we decide to commission, as well as the selected illustrator's approach to pricing. We will agree on specific deliverables, pricing, and milestones together before work begins. This is a defined initial project rather than an ongoing position or retainer. If we work well together, however, we would love to return to the same illustrator for occasional future commissions as the brand grows. These may be months apart and would be priced individually.
