British English Language Expert (Data Labeling Role)

We are seeking a British English Language Expert to support a transcription project as a Transcriptionist and Consultant. In this role, you will help ensure high-quality, accurate, and consistent transcripts of British Accented English phone calls. The audio consists primarily of customer-service phone conversations between callers and an agent. Because these are real-world phone calls, some recordings may include regional accents, background speech, unclear requests, names, addresses, businesses, or other locally specific references. We strongly encourage native British English speakers and individuals with significant experience living in the UK to apply. We are specifically looking for candidates who are linguistically, socially, and culturally familiar with British English and its regional variations. Strong familiarity with UK cities, towns, addresses, businesses, place names, first and last names, and regional expressions is especially valuable. One of your primary responsibilities will be to review existing ASR or pre-labeled transcripts against the original phone-call audio and correct any errors or unclear sections to produce the highest-quality final transcript possible. Please note that some audio files or sections will not be crystal clear. As a Voice AI company, high-quality transcription of challenging, real-world audio is especially valuable to us. This may include background noise, strong regional accents, telephone-quality audio, overlapping speech, and other adverse audio conditions. We are looking for transcriptionists who are willing to listen carefully and recover as much accurately transcribable speech as possible. Responsibilities: * Review and QA British English phone-call transcripts for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to our Style Guide * Carefully compare existing transcripts against the original audio and make corrections where needed * Resolve difficult sections involving regional British accents, unclear speech, background speech, or telephone-quality audio * Accurately capture UK-specific references, including street names, company names, locations, and personal names * Identify when a difficult section can be confidently resolved versus when the audio is genuinely unclear * Avoid guessing when speech cannot be confidently understood * Provide feedback on recurring accent, language, or transcription challenges * Escalate language-related, audio-quality, or technical issues when needed * Collaborate with project managers and other transcriptionists to meet project goals and deadlines Ideal Candidate: * Native or highly proficient speaker of British English * Strong ability to understand a wide variety of regional UK accents * Significant first-hand familiarity with UK language, culture, geography, names, and local references * Comfortable listening to and interpreting telephone-quality conversational audio * Previous experience with transcription, linguistic QA, annotation, speech data, or similar work preferred * Strong linguistic intuition and exceptional attention to detail * Comfortable following detailed transcription Style Guides * Able to accurately transcribe what was spoken without unnecessarily normalizing regional speech or dialect * Familiar with transcription platforms and tools such as Google Drive * Proactive and communicative when encountering ambiguous or difficult audio * Able to work independently and meet tight deadlines * Interested in language, speech technology, and AI training data What We Provide: * Access to our transcription platform * Access to our English Transcription Style Guide * Clear project instructions and examples * Collaboration with a team of transcriptionists * Ongoing project support Additional work may be available based on project needs, performance, and the volume of audio requiring British English review. Pay Rate: $40 per audio hour transcribed Compensation is based on the duration of the source audio, not the amount of working time required.
