Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Packaging Designer to create retail-ready packaging for a frozen food product intended for sale in the Canadian market. The ideal candidate will have experience designing food packaging that complies with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations, including bilingual labeling requirements, mandatory nutrition information, and packaging specifications for retail distribution. Key Responsibilities Design attractive, consumer-focused packaging for a frozen food product. Develop packaging layouts suitable for commercial printing and production. Ensure all artwork complies with applicable CFIA food labeling regulations and Canadian packaging requirements. Incorporate all required product information, including: Product name Common name Net quantity Ingredient list Allergen declarations Nutrition Facts table Storage instructions Cooking or preparation instructions Best Before date location Manufacturer or distributor information Country of origin (where applicable) Lot code placement Design bilingual (English/French) packaging that meets Canadian labeling standards. Ensure barcode placement and package layout are retail ready. Prepare print-ready production files with appropriate bleed, crop marks, color profiles, and dielines. Collaborate with our team to incorporate branding, product photography, and marketing messages. Revise designs based on feedback and regulatory requirements. Required Qualifications Proven experience designing food packaging for products sold in Canada. Strong understanding of CFIA food labeling regulations and applicable requirements under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR). Experience creating bilingual English/French packaging. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop. Experience preparing files for commercial printing. Knowledge of packaging materials suitable for frozen food products. Strong typography, layout, and branding skills. Excellent attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications Experience with frozen food or refrigerated food packaging. Familiarity with packaging sustainability considerations. Understanding of GS1 barcode requirements. Knowledge of Nutrition Facts table formatting requirements for Canada. Experience working with food manufacturers or co-packers. Deliverables The successful designer will provide: Initial packaging concepts (2–3 design options) Final approved packaging design Print-ready production artwork Editable source files (Adobe Illustrator or InDesign) Font files or font specifications (where licensing permits) Linked image assets PDF proofs for review Packaging mockups for presentation
