CMF Specification — Premium Brass Consumer Product (Chinese Manufacturing)
Worldwide
I am the founder of a consumer product company developing a premium brass dispenser object. The mechanical engineering package is complete — I have fully dimensioned SolidWorks drawings, STEP files, and a DFM-reviewed drawing set ready to hand to a Chinese precision brass machining supplier. What I need now is a CMF specification document that can accompany those drawings and tell a Chinese contract manufacturer exactly how to achieve the required surface finish. This is a separate engagement from the mechanical engineering work already completed. The product: - One-piece machined C260 cartridge brass upper casing - Detachable brass base plate - Launch finish: brushed brass with lacquer - Future finishes (follow-on work, not in scope for this engagement): gunmetal, matte black What I need you to deliver: A single CMF specification document covering the launch finish (brushed brass with lacquer) sufficient for a Chinese precision brass machining and finishing supplier to quote and produce to a consistent standard. Specifically: 1. Surface roughness (Ra value) for the brushed brass finish on the main external faces, with grain direction specified relative to the part geometry 2. Aperture lip finish — a functional release surface carries a polished bullnose; the polished Ra value and process must be specified separately from the brushed body finish 3. Lacquer specification — type (UV, cellulose, two-part), application method, thickness, and any adhesion or flexibility requirements appropriate for a handled desk object 4. Process sequence — the recommended order of operations (brushing, plating if any, lacquering) for a Chinese brass finishing line 5. Reference standard or physical sample guidance — how to communicate the finish target to a Chinese factory (reference standard number, finish sample approval process, or equivalent) 6. Incoming inspection criteria — what to check on receipt of finished parts to confirm the finish meets spec What I do not need: - Mechanical engineering or drawing work. The SolidWorks package is complete - Colour specification. Brushed brass is the material itself, not a coating colour - PVD specification. The launch finish is brushed + lacquer only; PVD finishes are future work Ideal candidate: You have direct experience specifying metal surface finishes for Chinese contract manufacturing — not just theoretical knowledge of Ra values and finish standards, but practical experience writing specifications that a Chinese factory actually uses. You understand the difference between what a drawing callout says and what a Chinese finishing line needs to see to produce a consistent result. Experience with brass, copper alloys, or premium consumer hardware is strongly preferred. Please do not apply if your experience is limited to textbook surface finish theory or if you have not worked directly with Chinese finishing suppliers. To apply: Please tell me briefly: what Ra value range and grain direction would you specify for a brushed brass finish on a premium consumer desk object, and what lacquer type would you recommend for a handled brass product in a dry indoor environment? A specific, unprompted answer to this question is the screen. Scope and budget: Fixed price. Single deliverable: one CMF specification document. Happy to discuss budget based on your experience level.
