CPG Senior Accountant and FP&A Analyst
Worldwide
SGS is a Fractional CFO and capital raise advisory firm. We help run the finance back office for growing companies. We are building a consumer packaged goods practice and need a CPG accountant who can also build budgets and models. You start on one CPG brand selling through large national retailers and preparing for a capital raise. Their team does the bookkeeping. We review the close, own the budget and the 13-week cash forecast, and keep the financials investor-ready. As we add CPG clients, you run this work across all of them, reporting to our founder. You will work directly with SGS's CEO day-to-day to complete all tasks. As a firm, we have very high standards for quality and turnaround time. Don't apply if this does not align with you. Hourly, ongoing, part-time to start. Hours can increase substantially as we grow in this segment. WHAT YOU WILL DO Weekly, per client - Update the 13-week cash forecast: retailer receipts by invoice net of expected deductions, co-packer and vendor payables, production runs, payroll. Flag the issues and inconsistencies. - Pull retailer sell-through data and update velocity assumptions. Monthly, per client - Review the client's close, or run it yourself where there is no bookkeeper: reconciliations, inventory tied to co-packer and 3PL reports, trade spend and COGS accruals, cut-off. Send back a findings list with the fix for each item. - Reconcile retailer deductions and chargebacks against the promo calendar and the accrual. Flag invalid ones for dispute. Keep the aging. - Produce the reporting package: gross-to-net bridge, three statements, contribution margin by SKU and channel, velocity and doors, runway, and budget versus actual commentary that traces each variance to its driver. - Tie the operating model to the general ledger. Annually or quarterly, per client - Build the driver-based budget (price, doors, velocity, trade rate, cost per unit, production timing, headcount) and reforecast monthly. - Maintain the three-statement model. Build new client models from our templates. - Support raise and lender diligence: data room, data requests, tie-outs between deck, model, and books. WHAT WE NEED - 10+ years in accounting or finance, at least 2 hands-on at a CPG brand (food or beverage preferred) selling into mass, grocery, or club retail. DTC or e-commerce only is not a direct fit. - Recent, direct experience with retailer deductions, trade accruals, gross-to-net, and co-packer and 3PL inventory including landed cost. - You have owned a month-end close, built driver-based budgets, and built 13-week cash forecasts. - Clean Excel modeling. QuickBooks Online. Clear written English; your commentary goes to founders and investors unedited. - Four or more hours of overlap with US Central business hours. Nice to have: CPA, fundraise or lender diligence experience, retailer portal experience. Start around 20 hours per month. Answer the screening questions with specifics from your own work. Generic answers are skipped. Screening questions 1. Which CPG brand or firm did you run month-end close for, through which retail channels, at what revenue, and which parts of the process did you personally own? 2. A large retailer short-pays an invoice with a deduction code you do not recognize. What do you do, step by step, until it is booked? 3. How do you accrue trade spend for a retailer promotion and true it up when the deductions arrive? 4. Describe a driver-based budget or 13-week cash forecast you built for a CPG brand: the drivers, and how actuals tracked. 5. Hours per week you can commit for the next three months, and your overlap with US Central time?
