California Residential Permit Drawing Template – SketchUp + LayOut
Worldwide
# California Residential Permit Drawing Template – SketchUp + LayOut I am a California-licensed general contractor looking for an experienced **architectural drafter / construction-document specialist** to help develop a professional, reusable **residential permit drawing template and workflow using SketchUp Pro and LayOut**. ## Project Goal I already use SketchUp to develop residential designs and models. My goal is to begin producing the architectural portion of permit/construction drawing sets in-house for projects such as: * ADUs * Residential additions * Garage conversions * Interior remodels * Small residential construction projects I am **not simply looking for someone to draw one project**. I want to hire someone who can help me create a professional **master SketchUp + LayOut permit drawing system** that I can reuse and modify for future projects. The system should be organized similarly to a professional architectural construction-document set and suitable as a starting point for California residential permit submissions. ## Requested Template / Sheet Organization I would like assistance developing a master template that can accommodate sheets such as: * **G0.0 – Cover / Title Sheet** * **G0.1 – General Notes, Code Information & Abbreviations** * **A1.0 – Site Plan** * **A1.1 – Existing / Demolition Plan** * **A2.0 – Proposed Floor Plan** * **A2.1 – Dimensioned Floor Plan** * **A2.2 – Door & Window Schedules** * **A3.0 – Roof Plan** * **A4.0 – Exterior Elevations** * **A5.0 – Building Sections** * **A6.0 – Architectural Details** * **E1.0 – Electrical / Lighting Plan** * **P1.0 – Plumbing Plan / Fixture Locations** * **M1.0 – Mechanical Plan** The template should also provide locations and organization for consultant documents such as **Title 24/energy documentation and structural drawings/calculations** when required. ## Reusable Notes & Details A major part of this project is creating a reusable library and professional drawing standards, including: * Project information block * Scope-of-work section * Applicable-code information * Occupancy and construction-type information * General construction notes * California residential code-related notes * CALGreen notes * Energy/Title 24 coordination notes * Egress and emergency escape notes * Smoke and carbon monoxide detector notes * Fire separation notes * Insulation notes * Waterproofing/weather-resistive barrier notes * Typical wall, roof and foundation details * Architectural symbols * Legends * Keynotes * Revision blocks * Door/window schedules * Material callouts * Dimension and annotation standards * Detail and section referencing standards The goal is to develop a **clean, professional and consistent drawing system**, not just a collection of generic notes. ## SketchUp + LayOut Workflow I want the system designed so that the SketchUp model drives as much of the drawing set as practical. For example: **SketchUp Model → LayOut Scenes/Viewports → Floor Plans → Elevations → Sections → Roof Plans → Details → Permit PDF** The LayOut template should have predefined sheet sizes, title blocks, layers/tags, drawing scales, line weights, fonts, dimensions, symbols and viewport standards. I would also like guidance on properly setting up SketchUp scenes/tags so models remain coordinated with LayOut as the design changes. ## Required Deliverables The final deliverables should include: 1. Native **SketchUp (.skp)** master/example file 2. Native **LayOut (.layout)** master template 3. Complete title-block system 4. Standard sheet organization 5. Reusable note library 6. Reusable symbol/detail library 7. Example completed residential drawing set demonstrating how the system works 8. Recommended SketchUp modeling/tag/scene standards 9. Recommended LayOut layer and viewport standards 10. PDF example of the completed permit set 11. Brief training/walkthrough of how to use and modify the system All native/editable files must be provided. **PDF-only deliverables will not be sufficient.** ## Ideal Candidate I am specifically looking for someone with experience in: * Residential architectural drafting * Construction documents * Building permit plan sets * **California residential projects** * ADUs and residential additions * SketchUp Pro * SketchUp LayOut * California Residential Code / California Building Standards * Construction detailing * Permit-plan organization Experience preparing drawings that have actually been submitted to **California building departments** is strongly preferred. ## Important I understand that certain projects or portions of projects may require drawings, calculations, or review by a **California-licensed architect, structural engineer, civil engineer, energy consultant, or other design professional**. This project is primarily about developing my **in-house architectural drafting and construction-document production system**, not having the freelancer represent themselves as the architect or engineer of record unless they actually hold the appropriate California license. ## When Applying Please include: * Examples of residential permit/construction drawing sets you have completed * Examples of California projects, if available * Your experience with SketchUp + LayOut * Your experience with ADUs/additions * Whether you have created reusable architectural templates before * Your proposed approach to this project * Estimated timeline * Fixed-price estimate or proposed milestones **Please do not apply with only 3D rendering or visualization examples. I am specifically looking for construction-document and permit-drawing experience.** The long-term goal is to create a system that allows me to efficiently take a residential project from **field measurements → SketchUp design/model → LayOut construction documents → consultant coordination → permit submission**.
