Comic Book Illustrator & Editorial Designer Needed for Premium Cybersecurity Superhero Comic We are looking for an experienced comic book illustrator and editorial designer to professionally develop and finalize an original illustrated comic book. The project is a premium educational superhero comic that explains cybersecurity and post-quantum cryptography through an original story, characters and visual world. This is not a traditional children's comic and it is not a simple corporate brochure. The aim is to create something that feels like a genuine, beautifully produced comic book that happens to teach a complex subject along the way. The audience includes teenagers, adults, cybersecurity professionals and non-technical readers. We already have: The complete story and page-by-page script Final character concepts A locked character reference sheet Defined costumes and visual identities Existing page compositions and visual references Dialogue and caption copy Panel-by-panel direction A defined colour system Brand assets and logos Existing illustrated page concepts that can be used as composition and art direction references We now need an illustrator/designer who can take ownership of the final artwork and production quality. The visual style The comic has a bright, premium editorial superhero style. Think polished contemporary graphic novel illustration combined with clean editorial design. The overall world should feel: Light Sophisticated Dynamic Modern Cinematic Detailed without becoming visually heavy Appropriate for both younger and adult audiences The environments are predominantly: Near white Pale silver Pale icy blue Light grey Colour is used intentionally throughout the story. Cyan generally represents protection, security and systems under control. Pink represents risk, exposure, attack activity and the villain. Other colours are used very selectively depending on the technical concept being explained. We do not want dark cyberpunk environments, black hacker rooms or generic neon cybersecurity visuals. The comic needs to remain bright and editorial throughout. Main characters There are six recurring characters whose appearance must remain extremely consistent throughout the book. QGuardian The superhero and protector. Young male hero with dark curly hair and a black eye mask. Black fitted technical superhero suit with cyan piping, silver shoulder pieces and silver belt elements. His chest has a white shield-shaped badge containing the QuantumGate multicoloured spiral emblem. Plain navy blue cape. The cape must never contain a logo. His personality is confident, curious and slightly witty. He should feel heroic without looking excessively muscular or aggressive. Mira The security analyst. Long dark hair worn in a high ponytail. Black fitted technical bodysuit with fine gold line detailing. No glasses. No lab coat. No earrings or jewellery. Sharp, observant and practical. Dr. Cipher The cryptography expert. Female mathematician and cryptographer. Shoulder-length dark curly hair. Black glasses. Teal earrings. White lab coat over a black outfit. Intelligent, composed, precise and slightly dry in her humour. Rashed The security leader. Emirati male character. White kandura and ghutra with black agal. Black sleeveless technical vest with subtle cyan detailing. Beard. Calm, authoritative and practical. Glitch The cyber attacker and villain. Entirely dressed in matte black. Long hooded technical coat with subtle pink glitch dissolution around the edges. His hood is always pulled forward. A matte black fabric mask covers his nose, mouth and chin. Only a narrow area around the eyes is visible. His eyes are ordinary human eyes and never glow. He should feel intelligent, calm and unsettling rather than monstrous. Scout A small scruffy Yorkshire terrier. Cute, expressive and slightly chaotic. Brown and black fur. Plain cyan technical collar/harness. No logos or letters on the collar. Scout provides some humour without turning the comic into a children's story. Character consistency is extremely important One of the biggest requirements of this project is character continuity. The same character must look like the same person on every page. We do not want: Changing faces Changing hairstyles Different body proportions Costume changes Random accessories Different eye shapes Different skin tones Different versions of the same character from page to page The supplied character sheet will be treated as the master reference. You should be comfortable creating a proper model sheet / turnaround system from the references before completing the final pages. We would ideally establish: Front view 3/4 view Side view Back view Facial expression references Costume details Height relationships between characters Approved colour palette before final production begins. Comic structure The comic is approximately 20+ designed pages, including story pages and supporting editorial pages. Others combine comics with diagrams, systems, keys, cryptographic concepts, timelines or editorial information. The illustrator therefore needs to be comfortable with both character storytelling and technical visual communication. What we need you to do We are not looking for someone to completely reinvent the concept. We need someone who can take the existing creative direction and make it professionally consistent. Your responsibilities would include: Refine the final character model sheets Redraw characters consistently throughout the comic Refine or rebuild existing illustrated pages where required Illustrate missing or newly created panels Improve anatomy, poses and facial consistency Improve perspective and environments Improve panel composition and visual storytelling Maintain clear reading order across every page Ensure speech balloons clearly connect to the correct speaker Create clean technical diagrams where needed Maintain the established colour logic Correct inconsistent or distorted objects Correct logos and brand assets Clean up typography Remove any distorted or fake lettering from artwork Prepare final layouts Ensure correct margins and binding safety Prepare bleed Prepare all artwork at professional print resolution Deliver final print-ready PDF Deliver high-resolution individual page files Deliver editable source files Existing concept artwork We have already developed visual concepts for the pages. These are useful because they establish: Composition Character placement Panel structure Lighting Colour direction Storytelling Technical concepts General art direction However, some existing concept artwork contains inconsistencies such as: Character faces changing slightly between pages Costume inconsistencies Incorrect logos Poor small typography Incorrect speech balloon positioning Occasional anatomy issues Inconsistent margins Different illustration quality between pages Low resolution in some assets The purpose of this engagement is to turn the concept artwork into one cohesive professionally illustrated book. You should be comfortable using existing generated/reference artwork as visual direction while producing polished original final artwork. Print production requirements The final book will be professionally printed. Experience preparing illustrated publications for print is therefore important. Final files should include: 300 DPI minimum at final print dimensions CMYK print files Correct bleed Safe margins Binding/gutter safety Consistent outer margins Consistent panel gutters High-resolution artwork Sharp typography No rasterised text where avoidable Embedded or outlined fonts Print-ready PDF Individual high-resolution TIFF/PNG files if required Editable layered source files We will confirm final trim size with the selected illustrator. The comic will likely be saddle stitched, so awareness of left-page and right-page binding safety is important. Typography and lettering You should also be comfortable with comic lettering. Speech balloons must: Clearly belong to the correct speaker Have tails physically pointing to or touching the speaker Follow natural left-to-right reading order Remain clear of binding areas Maintain consistent type size and style Technical explanations occasionally appear as caption boxes. These should feel editorial rather than like generic comic narration. All text must be manually checked. There can be no AI-generated gibberish or pseudo-text in the final artwork. Technical illustration Several pages explain concepts including: Cryptographic keys Symmetric encryption Public-key cryptography RSA ECC AES Digital signatures Certificates Authentication Key establishment Post-quantum cryptography ML-KEM ML-DSA SLH-DSA Quantum computing Crypto-agility Cryptographic inventories Data retention Migration processes You do not need to be a cryptography expert. We will provide the exact technical content. However, you must be good at turning technical concepts into clean visual explanations that still belong inside the same comic universe. Important brand rules Brand accuracy matters. The QuantumGate logo and QGuardian emblem will be supplied as final artwork. Do not redraw or reinterpret the logo. The character's chest emblem must remain consistent throughout the entire book. Logos should not randomly appear on: Shields Capes Dog collars Keys Locks Servers Documents Background objects unless specifically requested. Workflow We would like to work page by page rather than receiving the entire comic at the end. A likely workflow would be: Review full comic and references Finalize character model sheets Agree colour palette and illustration rules Finalize one sample page Finalize one technical/explainer page Lock the visual system Produce remaining pages in batches Review character continuity Complete lettering and typography Complete print preflight Deliver final artwork and source files We expect revision rounds throughout the project. The illustrator should therefore be comfortable receiving detailed visual feedback. Please include this with your application As a small test of fit, please tell us which two or three pages in your portfolio you believe are closest to the visual quality and storytelling required for this project and explain briefly why. We would rather review a few highly relevant examples than a very large generic portfolio. Project goal The final comic should feel like it was drawn, art-directed and designed by one creative team from beginning to end. A reader should never notice that different pages were developed at different stages. Characters should remain recognisable. The visual language should remain consistent. The technical explanations should be clear. The pages should feel dynamic. And the final printed book should look good enough to distribute professionally at conferences, customer meetings, schools, industry events and executive engagements.
