Cyber Forensics & Digital Investigations Specialist

We're building a bench of specialized contractors to support a growing forensic investigations firm. The founder currently handles all cases personally but is scaling rapidly due to expanded radio show visibility and needs certified professionals to take on specific technical tasks across multiple concurrent projects. This is not a general VA role. We're looking for credentialed forensic and cyber security professionals whose work will hold up in court. Reports must meet legal standards for integrity, honesty, and validation. What You'll Do Depending on your specialization, you'll be assigned to one or more of the following areas: Malware, virus, and intrusion identification — incident response, forensic analysis of compromised systems Phone number tracing — attribution and lookup work Name + social media searches and background checks — OSINT investigations Dark web tracing — monitoring and evidence collection from dark web sources Mobile phone investigations — device forensics, extraction, and analysis BLE, RFID, NFC, and sensor investigations — hardware and signal-level forensics You will produce court-ready reports following the firm's standardized reporting format. Required Qualifications Active industry certifications relevant to your specialty (e.g., CISSP, CEH, GCFA, GCIH, CCFP, CFCE, EnCE, CHFI, GIAC, Security+, or equivalent) Professional liability / errors & omissions insurance in place Demonstrated experience producing court-admissible forensic reports Comfortable being named on the record and, where required, testifying on findings Ability to work independently under strict standardized practices Strong written English suitable for legal documentation Clean background — this work involves sensitive information Preferred Experience Prior work as an expert witness or contractor to law enforcement, legal firms, or private investigators Experience with chain-of-custody protocols and evidence handling Familiarity with US legal reporting requirements for digital forensics Radio, podcast, or media background a plus (given the client's platform) Standards & Compliance All contractors must be able to answer, in writing, the client's due-diligence questions before onboarding: Certifications held and current status Insurance coverage and policy details Willingness to testify and appear in court on findings produced Approach to standardized forensic practices Reporting requirements and format compliance Position on liability and responsibility for court-admissible work Handling of travel expenses (client vs. contractor responsibility — to be negotiated per engagement) Engagement Terms Project-based — rates negotiated per case type and complexity Tools are case-dependent — bring your own preferred stack; no fixed toolchain required Reporting cadence set per case Multi-case capacity preferred (client has multiple concurrent projects) Key Points to Address in Application Which specialization(s) you cover from the list above Certifications currently held (with expiration dates) Insurance coverage confirmation Whether you or your company would testify and be named on the record Sample redacted forensic report (if available) Rate structure and travel expense expectations How to apply: 1.
