DTC Performance Creative Designer — Static & Video Ads
Worldwide
DTC Performance Creative Designer — Static Ads, Video, Email and Social We operate three Shopify DTC brands across swimwear, premium apparel, and beauty. We are hiring a versatile performance creative designer who can produce static and short-form video assets that are designed to be tested, measured, and improved. This is not a general graphic-design or organic-social-only role. We need someone who understands direct-response creative, customer motivations, advertising metrics, creative testing, and how to turn performance data into better concepts. You must personally be able to develop concepts and produce both static and video creative. The engagement will begin with a paid skills assessment followed by a 90-day part-time pilot. What you will own - Produce static and short-form video ads for Meta, Instagram, TikTok, Google, and other relevant channels. - Transform existing photography, video, customer reviews, testimonials, and UGC into performance creative. - Develop materially different concepts, hooks, messages, and visual approaches—not merely resize or recolor the same advertisement. - Create email graphics, website banners, launch assets, Stories, Reels, carousels, and promotional content. - Edit short-form video with effective hooks, pacing, captions, benefits, proof, objections, and calls to action. - Create testing variations from winning concepts. - Resize and adapt approved creative across placements. - Use AI-assisted tools selectively and disclose where they were used. - Maintain a distinct visual system for each brand. - Organize editable source files, templates, exports, and licensed assets. - Maintain a creative testing tracker showing the concept, audience, hypothesis, variations, results, and next action. - Review performance data and use it to inform the next production cycle. What you must be able to prove Applicants must submit at least two relevant DTC or e-commerce case studies. Each must include: 1. The product, audience, offer, and creative objective. 2. The original brief or problem. 3. The assets you personally created. 4. Your exact responsibilities versus those of strategists, editors, media buyers, or other team members. 5. The creative variations that were tested. 6. Available performance results, such as CTR, conversion rate, CPA, ROAS, hook rate, hold rate, or video retention. 7. The comparison period or control creative. 8. What you learned and how you changed the next iteration. Please include at least: - Three static-ad examples. - Three short-form video examples. - One example showing multiple variations of a single concept. - One example showing how performance data changed your creative direction. A visually attractive portfolio without evidence of direct-response thinking will not be sufficient. Required qualifications - Strong DTC or e-commerce portfolio. - Ability to personally create both static and video assets. - Experience with Meta and TikTok performance advertising. - Understanding of direct-response principles and customer psychology. - Strong typography, hierarchy, composition, pacing, and mobile-first design. - Proficiency in relevant Adobe, Figma, Canva, CapCut, or comparable tools. - Ability to work efficiently with existing product assets and UGC. - Ability to interpret creative-performance metrics. - Reliable turnaround, communication, revision management, and file organization. Preferred experience - Fashion, swimwear, apparel, beauty, skincare, wellness, or premium products. - UGC and creator-content editing. - Product retouching. - Email and landing-page design. - Motion graphics or AI-assisted product visualization. - Experience supporting multiple brands. This role is probably not a fit if you: - Primarily create logos, brand identities, or general social posts. - Cannot personally edit short-form video. - Judge creative only by appearance. - Cannot explain the hypothesis behind an advertisement. - Cannot show how data influenced a subsequent iteration. - Depend on unlicensed images, music, fonts, or footage. - Use essentially the same creative treatment for every brand. How performance will be evaluated Depending on channel and creative type, our scorecard may include: - Production speed and reliability - Click-through rate - Conversion rate - Cost per acquisition - Return on advertising spend - Hook rate and video retention - Performance against existing or control creative - Number of meaningfully different concepts tested - Approval rate and revision efficiency - Ability to turn results into better iterations We do not expect every creative to win. We expect purposeful concepts, disciplined testing, efficient production, honest analysis, and increasingly stronger iterations. Engagement - Independent contractor - Remote - Approximately 10–15 hours per week - Initial 90-day pilot - Target range: $20–$35 per hour - One weekly 30-minute meeting - Weekly time limit and agreed deliverables - Independent specialists preferred over agencies - Editable source files are required - No content may be published or activated without approval Paid assessment Finalists will receive the same paid assignment using one product and the same source assets. The assessment will require two distinct static concepts, one short-form video, alternative hooks, a testing rationale, and editable source files. We will not request unpaid speculative creative. How to apply Begin your proposal with: “Creative that performs.” Then provide: 1. Two case studies using the required format above. 2. Three static-ad examples and three short-form video examples. 3. One example of a concept you improved using performance data. 4. Your exact personal contribution to every example. 5. Your hourly rate, weekly availability, and usual turnaround time. 6. The tools you personally use. 7. Confirmation that you provide organized, editable source files. 8. Confirmation that you are willing to complete a paid assessment. Answer these questions directly: 1. How does performance creative differ from general social media design? 2. How would you create three meaningfully different concepts for one product? 3. What metrics tell you to iterate, scale, or stop a concept? 4. Describe a creative that underperformed and what you changed next. 5. How would you keep three brands distinct while maintaining production efficiency? 6. What source material and performance data would you request before beginning? Applications without relevant DTC work, video examples, case-study evidence, or direct screening answers will not be reviewed.
