Data Engineer – dbt & Snowflake (Data Model Refactoring, 3–4 Week Project)

Job Title Data Engineer – dbt/Snowflake Refactoring Specialist (Short-Term Project) Project Overview We're looking for an experienced data engineer to lead a focused refactoring engagement on a set of complex dbt models running on Snowflake. This is an initial 3–4 week project with the potential to extend into ongoing work depending on fit and results. The models in scope have grown organically over time and need to be restructured for maintainability, performance, and clarity — without disrupting downstream reporting. What You'll Do Review and assess existing dbt project structure, models, and macros Identify performance bottlenecks, redundant logic, and technical debt Refactor complex models (including models using advanced patterns like deduplication logic, multi-source joins, and incremental builds) Improve modularity, testing coverage, and documentation within the dbt project Optimize Snowflake warehouse usage and query performance where relevant Communicate clearly on progress, blockers, and recommendations throughout the engagement Requirements 3+ years of hands-on experience with dbt (Core or Cloud) in production environments Strong Snowflake expertise, including performance tuning and warehouse optimization Proven experience refactoring large or complex dbt model DAGs Solid understanding of dimensional modeling and analytics engineering best practices Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight once scope is aligned Strong written communication for async collaboration Nice to Have Experience with Looker, Sigma or other downstream BI tools consuming dbt models Familiarity with CI/CD for dbt (e.g., dbt Cloud jobs, GitHub Actions) Experience with data quality/testing frameworks (dbt tests, Great Expectations, etc.) Project Details Duration: 3–4 weeks initial scope How to Apply Please include: A brief summary of a similar dbt/Snowflake refactoring project you've completed Your availability over the next 3–4 weeks
