## Deaf / Hard-of-Hearing Blog Writer — Real Experiences & Everyday Life ### About the Role We’re looking for a thoughtful and engaging writer to create **authentic blog content about the everyday experiences of Deaf and hard-of-hearing people**. We don't want generic articles that simply list facts about hearing loss. We want **real, human-centered stories and perspectives** that help hearing readers understand situations they may rarely think about—from conversations and friendships to school, work, dating, technology, and navigating public spaces. Our goal is to create content that is relatable, insightful, and capable of starting meaningful conversations. ### Topics May Include Articles could explore subjects such as: * Everyday communication challenges hearing people may not notice * School, university, and workplace experiences * Dating, relationships, friendships, and family life * Social situations and feeling included—or excluded * Misconceptions and stereotypes about Deaf people * Sign language, lip-reading, interpreters, captions, and communication preferences * Accessibility challenges in everyday places and services * Technology and how it helps—or sometimes fails * Deaf culture, identity, and community * Experiences unique to younger Deaf and hard-of-hearing people * Things hearing people do with good intentions that aren't always helpful * Funny, frustrating, awkward, or surprising everyday experiences * Ideas for making workplaces, communities, and social spaces more accessible We're also very open to **topics you believe deserve more attention**. ### Who We're Looking For **Deaf and hard-of-hearing writers are strongly encouraged to apply.** Firsthand experience can provide insights, details, and perspectives that are difficult to capture through research alone. We're particularly interested in writers who are comfortable bringing some of their own observations or experiences into their work. That said, **you decide what you're comfortable sharing.** We are not looking for anyone to disclose private or deeply personal experiences simply for the sake of creating content. We're looking for someone who can write with: * Authenticity and personality * Strong storytelling instincts * Empathy and nuance * A natural, conversational voice * An understanding that there is no single "Deaf experience" * The ability to make complex issues accessible to a general audience ### You Don't Need to Be a Professional Journalist We're very open to **new and emerging writers**. If you're a strong communicator with interesting perspectives and stories to tell, we'd like to hear from you—even if you don't have an extensive professional writing portfolio. We care more about **your voice, ideas, and ability to connect with readers** than impressive credentials. ### What You'll Be Writing You'll create original blog articles that help readers better understand Deaf and hard-of-hearing experiences. The strongest articles will combine **storytelling, observation, personal perspective, and research when appropriate** rather than sounding academic or overly formal.
