## Software Engineer — Part-Time / Retainer Codebase Support I’m looking for an experienced software engineer I can keep on a flexible retainer for ongoing technical support across several software projects. I build quickly and can handle most product development myself, but occasionally I’ll hit a bug, integration issue, architecture problem, or section of the codebase where I need someone more technically experienced to jump in and help solve it. This is **not a full-time development role**. I’m looking for someone who can become familiar with my codebase and act as an on-call technical resource when I get stuck. ### What you’ll do * Review and become familiar with an existing codebase * Debug issues I haven’t been able to solve * Help fix isolated sections/features without unnecessarily rebuilding everything * Troubleshoot APIs, authentication, databases, deployments, and integrations * Identify the actual root cause of technical problems * Occasionally advise on architecture or better implementation approaches * Explain what was changed so I can understand and maintain it afterward ### Current stack Most projects are modern web applications using technologies such as: * React * TypeScript / JavaScript * Vite * Supabase / PostgreSQL * APIs and AI integrations * Vercel * Git / GitHub Experience with AI-assisted development environments like Cursor is a plus. ### What I’m looking for I care much more about debugging ability than someone who just knows how to generate lots of code. You should be able to receive a message like: “Everything works except this one section. Here’s the repo, here’s what it should do, and here’s what is going wrong.” …and independently diagnose the issue. Ideal candidates are: * Strong technical problem solvers * Comfortable entering someone else’s existing codebase * Fast at debugging * Good communicators * Comfortable with occasional / asynchronous work * Available for relatively quick turnaround when something is blocking development ### Engagement I’d like to establish an ongoing relationship rather than hire a different developer every time something breaks. This could be structured as a small monthly retainer plus hourly work when needed, or another arrangement that makes sense. When applying, please include: 1. Your strongest development languages/frameworks 2. Examples of projects you’ve debugged or inherited from other developers 3. Your typical availability/response time 4. Your hourly or retainer rate 5. A short explanation of how you approach debugging an unfamiliar codebase
